🙂 I'm curious if you ever opened up the oil pump .
It'll be disassembled and cleaned, maybe deburred.....
The mains have some grooves, and the crank needs a turning. It's always made bearing material, hopefully we can fix that too this time around.

5 years ago, I heard tell that a Lokar SBC dickstick would fit the Olds. In my horsepower drunken haste, I aborted final fitment, so in the name of 2nd chances, I made it work for the new engine. Cut 2 3/4" out of the tube, and it's dead nuts. I only run 6qts in the 7.5 psn to reduce windage, and that's right at the "add 1qt" lower mark.

I need to the Lokar dipstick mod on my next motor. The only chrome dipstick that fits tightly is the Spectra. Your motor has me sold on aluminum rods. Despite a piece of a valve destroying 2 pistons, they held up. If those were factory rods, they would have bent like spaghetti and probably destroyed everything else. I bet it revs super quick for a 455 as well. You should see quite a gain with the bigger intake valve and a short side transition clean up. Are they Gen 1 or 2 Edelbrock heads? The new style with the heart shape chamber, easiest way to tell, are worth 30 cfm on the intake side, out of the box over the heads you had. Sounds awesome, Bill has built enough high rpm Olds motors, he should know what parts will last. Of course these guys won't give away their secrets on valve springs. I hope Mark doesn't steer me wrong either on that choice. Sounds awesome!

I need to get a bob weight to brag about.
Frank said they never did the heart shaped chamber. I've never seen one, either. The difference in part numbers is the springs with 1 advertised for hydraulic rollers and the other for flat tappets. Bill said he throws them in the trash either way!

Comp Cams 26986 should fit yours, and there are lots of others. There are infinite spring cups/positioners to fit any head combo with minimal if any machine work. The old guys just can't get over dual/triple springs. The belief that the inner spring(s) are going to save the engine if the outer spring breaks keeps feeding this fire. If you break that outer spring (or a beehive) at 6000+ you are screwed or very lucky if no damage occurs. The beehives look flimsy and inadequate. It is about the shape and treatment of the wire and the lack of mass (spring, retainer, lock) that helps allow excellent valve control.

One thing is for sure, a good beehive setup ain't cheap. I have about about $500 tied up in springs, locks, retainers, and cups...........................................ouch!

Yeah, their springs sound questionable, heard that from a few sources. They did do a heart shape chamber, they have been out for years. They also did some improvements to improve flow and allow more porting. Supposedly Procomp also added material where it counted for porting when they copied the first gen Edelbrock heads. It doesn't help Edelbrock has some heads shown with the old chamber on their site. This is the "new" heart shape version in the link below.

The fact that he doesn’t know about the heart shaped chambers makes me wonder.

<unofficial bobweight brag> 1308g plus a rod bearing

Went over my buddy's place yesterday and got the heads knocked apart. Having the right tools makes things so much easier. Reusing the rocker studs, guide plates, keepers, and locks.20201111_164223.jpg20201111_164213.jpg
Got the new piston kit and valve springs in from BTR
