dangit joe, every pic you post is makin it harder for me to stay in the planned grey colors for mine! love that color!

Well after some figuring out I got my old wiring harness taken apart, and put back together with the bare minimum amount of wires. Obviously it will need integrated with the LS harness but at least I have to old wires out of the way. It looks pretty clean and I'd say I reduced the amount of wires by about 60%. Should make for a much cleaner engine bay. Just trying to do some little things now until I have enough for and engine and transmission. I've got to get the firewall and frame cleaned and painted next.

I know I've been back and forth between LS and Buick 350 swaps for my regal but today I made a transaction that should help solidify my decision. I found a guy who had a 350 4 barrel in a '71 Skylark that is complete except for the carb. It's still in the car and has around 80,000 miles on it. It has been in inside storage for 2 years. I don't usually like buying engines in blind faith, but I'm trading those built cylinder heads I had laying around for this whole engine. Seems like a decent deal. I'll probably put a new timing set on it and a few new gaskets, but no complete teardown. One more step toward a running, driving car!

Well here it is-

This isn't the motor I mentioned in the previous post, but it is a Buick 350. I bought this off of craigslist. It is a "ran when pulled" motor. It is a 1976 all-original motor out of a Lesabre. I haven't run any of the casting numbers for details but I believe it was ~160 HP, 220ish lb-ft of torque. It last ran a couple years ago and has been stored inside. It came complete with a wiring harness, air cleaner, carb, tons of hoses and vacuum lines and all the accessories. My plan is to clean all the sludge out really well, regasket it, new timing set, water pump, rebuild the carb, paint, and all the basic tune up stuff. It Will be repainted the original GM corporate blue color, no crazy neon yellows or greens lol. Maybe a few other things. The only thing that I don't like about it is it's got a few broken fasteners, and there are a couple more that seem like they are gonna break. So far- 1 exhaust manifold bolt, 1 water pump bolt, and 1 really long timing cover bolt that is gonna be a nightmare. I've got it cleaned up a lot at this point and its torn down to the the block, timing cover, the heads, and the intake manifold. So, anyways, this engine has been a long time coming, so here it is.

nice score! take your time, and keep your attention to detail, and it'll come out great as everything else so far!

btw... nice to see a buick going into , well, a buick!

Are just the heads of the bolts broken off, with threads exposed, or are they broke off flush with the block? I had a few exhaust manifold bolts broken off , just the heads. Got a bolt on them, hit it with the mig, and they came right out with ratchet.

Today I got the timing cover bolt drilled out, and now it just needs to be drilled 1 or 2/64s bigger and then tapped. The water pump bolt came out with vise grips, but I hacked up the timing cover that it threaded into when I removed the other broken bolt, so the whole timing cover is gonna need replaced. The exhaust manifold bolt that is snapped is broken off flush, so it'll need drilled and tapped.

Great! Always love when people choose a Buick 350. Very good motors. Might aswell stab a cam in there if you can fit it in the budget. Comp 268H with .469/.469 lift in the kit with timing set, cam, lifters and springs and valvestem seals (won't fit) is only about 350$ shipped from summit. 😀
