Then the Olds can have the garage!

I would advise against any mods to the Yaris.
How about taking the hubcaps off and finding some beauty rings for the black wheel with polished lip look?

If you could sell the whole car and parts that wouId be great. It's so tough selling a car with a collection of parts.

For a new car colour I vote white. It hides scratches, dings, and dirt much better than black ( that's why fleet trucks are typically white ). Of course I am partial as 2 of my 3 vehicles are white

Garaging the Cutlass is what excites me too. It means I can pull the insurance and plates from it to save some money every month. Sadly, it has wiring issues that while minor, are bad enough to keep me from driving it. Plus, it needs new tires, wheels and a rear suspension rebuild along with a transmission. It will be put on the back burner until I can get my house the way I want it, so there is no need to pay to keep it on the road when I don't drive it. The only reason it is tagged right now is that it is parked outside and it serves as a parts runner and backup vehicle to the truck. With a new car that has a full factory warranty though, that should no longer be necessary.

As for the Yaris, I probably will leave it stock save for tint and a stereo ( I am buying it radio delete, and tint is needed in Florida to protect the interior and my dignity). The money that it would cost to mod the thing would be better spent on the Cutlass or house instead. In the end, it will just be an appliance. As for color, I am leaning towards black as it hides the shape of the front end better, and looks a little nicer. However, I am a fan of white cars too, and tend to like white the best for an appliance. So, we'll see what I do. Pics of the appliance will be posted when I get it.

My vote is for white. Thousands of fleets can't be wrong. It hides door dings, bad bodywork, dirt, etc. Plus, it stays cooler in the sun. You already know all that.
I thought you were considering a rebuilder. What happened there?

I consider a lot of things, but most of them do not get past the consideration point ( like my idea to build an AWD turbo diesel East German Trabant). I looked in to the whole thing and found that the downside was just too risky. The place I was looking at uses fork lifts to move cars around, which can cause a lot of expensive damage to them (found this out from a friend who knows someone that does interstate auto transport). Plus, there are issues with needing a dealer's license, etc. In the end, I decided that at my income level, I can't afford the risk. I may try to do a rebuilder to flip at a later date, but for now I need to solidify my ability to meet the basic needs in my life. A new car represents stability and something I do not have to worry about. This lets me try other things in other areas of my life because I know that I am not facing a potentially large repair bill in the near term. So, while it may not be the cheapest thing to do, it does make sense. I am also keeping my truck so that if I do decide to start a business or rehab houses, etc. I will have the means to do so.

Did you ever consider a VW TDI jetta or any of their turbo diesel cars? I parked one at my valet job last weekend, the guy said he gets 49 mpg on trips. It was a 4 speed, or whatever manual transmission those come with. Just wondering because i know those are really good cars.

The problem with diesel VW's is that the cheapest new one is like $22,000 (Golf). I really want brand new, with a complete warranty on it so I have no worries for a while. That will change in a few years when i can finally get a better job, but for now, with my very limited income, I need the stability of a full factory warranty so that I can concentrate on other things for a while. The Yaris should be back on rebate soon, and when it is, it will be around $11,500. it is neither great nor fun, but it is practical and cheap to run. So, it is probably going to be what I choose in the end. Also, it is one of the only Toyotas to not be recalled for some sort of unintended fiery death.

You end up selling it?
