So im new to this forum, and just picked up a super cheap 85 cutlass supreme broham. After running the vin, it said it was supposed to have a V6 in it, but it has a V8, so now i need to get the numbers and find out what motor is in there. Other than the block casting number is there a way to determine if this is a 350 or a 307? I have seen some ebay 350 "rocket"s that look like whats under the hood. Has an HEI distributor, and looks like a quadra junk carb.

I am interested because I am trying to decide my project path at this point. My inevitable goal is a twin turbo v8 in the 6-700hp range. My first G body was an 83 GPlj when I was 19. Put a sbc 383 into it and it was a fun car. Since that I have gone import with a couple exceptions (99 dakota RT and a buddies '14 Camaro SS)

Now my new project has a TON of rust and body work needed, which is partially why I came to this forum in the first place. In hopes to get some places to source body pannels I may need, or some input on replacement parts out there. Also to pick some brains on blow thru carb systems ( never delt with them before) or swap to something like an LT1 for the EFI and tunability.

Overall I want to keep a small block in the car, going to run an auto trans, and planning to build something that is basically a fun "cruise" car yet fun to play with at the track on the weekends.

I would love to know who (if anyone) has done a blow thru turbo setup on their G body, and some input on blow thru or EFI.

Also, has anyone used the goodmark quarters for repairs on their g body? How is the fitment on them? And is there anywhere around that sell's rockers and fenders too? Basically anything in the lower 3 inches of the body panels has rusted thru. Yet amazingly the frame is pretty clean of rust damage.

Sorry if im a little scattered i just finished a 14hr work day.

When I get home, I plan to get some pix up. Im a truck driver in a regional manor so I am always on the go. But I am definitely going to get pix up this weekend. Got the car like 3 weeks ago and have been cleaning up my garage for the last 2 weeks to make some room for it. Have 3 blocks from my Supra's sitting in there, and 2 4G63's sitting in there too. Been a pain getting all the import blocks down to my buddies place for storage while I try to make room in my lil garage for this monster of a car.

So I need to upload my photos to another server cause the files r to big. Will work on that later.

Need help IDing this. It ends in 5.0L G above the water pump next to the oil fill after pressure washing. Is this 302, 305, or 307? Im guessing not 305 based on the intake, and its not stock for the car at all as the VIN claims its a V6.

This should just buff right out, NO?

Someone tried to fix this with AB foam????

More great stuff body repairs.

I dont think there is a single panel on this car without rust holes. So this is my project. How it will start. We will see how it ends up.

With SO much work needed on that car, youd be better off starting out with a better overall car to begin with.................unless of course your in no hurry to drive it and (for the most-of-the-reason) broke like the rest of us. Don't worry, being broke isn't the part that sucks..............its being broke and still having NO motivation to take on projects like this one. I commend you for wanting to save this car. Id by no means want to start with this much work ahead of me. You say the frame is pretty good and not a rusty mess, any chance of finding a wrecked cutlass in your area, that may just need a front or rear clip and having better overall body panels? Just food for thought!

Good Luck! Keep us posted.

Well this is for me going to be a VERY long term project for me and my kids. The oldest is 10, youngest is on the way right now due in 2 months. Really I have no NEED to drive this, EVER. But I really love G bodies ever since my first 83 GP LJ. I am looking at some resto panels from goodmark right now as I can get them for about 100 bux each side. I am in the air about back halfing the car and putting a set of tub's I have sitting in the garage in there while I have the skins off.

I have far to many cars to begin with, and this is just something I want to teach my kids to work on. Its a great platform, and doesnt already have 20k+ into it.

my car line up goes as follows.

88 supra
86.5 supra
89 Eclipse GSX
91 Talon TSi
99 Dakota R/T 427ci small block twin turbo.
09 Evo
02 Tahoe
85 cutlass
06 ZX-14R

As you can see, I have WAY to many toys. This is by no means a rush or a daily driver.

The overall plan for this cutlass is going to be small block twin turbo motor that has a street manor and a track presence. I want to introduce some custom work into this car, and update some things into modern technology, and also keep that classic flair that the G bodies are known for.

I plan to scour some of the local bone yards, and even going to check into some while I am on the road. (truck driver) Makes sourcing parts a bit easier when you can potentially pick them up and save shipping.
