here's my near miss, broken lower ball joint on the right side at 50 mph sure made it hard to turn the car away from the guard rail and to keep it off the guard rail and not back out into traffic.....

I need to check and see if the scrape marks are still on the highway where my lugs sheared and the tire rocketed off @ 65 mph. It happened over a year ago but I could still see the groove 4 months ago. G-body steel cuts right through asphalt.

I went out to the yard in search of tires. I found 2, Michelin 205/65/15's that look pretty good. I went ahead and put them on.

Here's one of the tires that came off of the rear.

No wonder I hydroplaned. I'm gonna have to procrastinate less on important things like tires.

Here's the "new" ones.

Wow Chris- bald tires and rain- you KNOW if could have been a LOT worse. Looks like your instincts kicked in and you handled it well. Hey, if I worked where you do- I'd be in fresh rubber all the time! hint-hint.

Hey Mark, you know you're right. The whole thing is really my fault. I should have changed tires a long time ago.

You'd think with all the cars at work I'd have good tires all the time.... Problem is, I run 15" tires. The only vehicles that have wide but not too tall 15" tires are usually older cars like ours. The boss doesn't buy very many of them. I usually have to get tires from Camry's or some early 2000's Buicks. People don't usually put 245's on their front wheel drive car. I get stuck with 205's or 215's if I'm lucky. Lol. Every now and then an S10 will have a set that will fit. I wish I could find some cheap 16" or 17" wheels that I liked. I could find tires then.

I run Pontiac Rally2 wheels and I use 205, 215, and 225-15's all the time. I find the 225-75's fit my Firebird well but are a tad too tall for my wagon but the 215-70-15's are a perfect fit. I got a set of Tiger Paws on sale last year from Sears and the price was right. Gotta love Surprise Points!

Opie,
That sucks about the car., but I agree, it could've been a lot worse. I'm sure you'll have the body back in shape in no time. Good tire thread can make the difference. However, a rainy oil slicked road can be treacherous.
I'm glad you're alright and didn't get hurt. It sounds like you handled it like a trooper.
