If I find one in a wrecking yard, how hard is it to remove the rear glass from one of these cars. My car is a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais.

Other than a wrecking yard, what is a good price to pay for one at a local glass shop, including installation?

Thanks for any replies!

Chances are you will have to get a used one. Most backglasses that old are no longer manufactured, as demand is very low.

Try this link for a salvage that might have the one you need

www.car-part.com

Pulling one that has never been removed and reset varies from cutting it out with a longknife, to simply lifting it out. I had an 80 Malibu that was so loose, I was afraid it was going to blow out going down the road.

Locally, it's about $65 to R&I a fixed glass

Thanks for the post. I checked the local wrecking yard with no luck. A local glass shop gave me a quote of 175. That is them coming to my house and installing, which is a benefit due to the fact the car has no drivetrain. Does this sound like a fair deal?

Doesn't sound bad for not wasting your time to find one, cut it out, clean it up, and have someone install it.

I'll check out another yard. If nothing comes up, I'll give the glass shop a call. It's a neat old car, but I have to set it on the back burner for now while I knock out some other projects. The rear glass was broken out when I picked it up. The previous owner had some bisquene duct taped over the rear opening and it only does so much good. The drivetrain was removed sometime around 1997 and during its resting period a tree limb broke it out. I've been wanting a factory 4 speed for a while. Thanks for the advice.

Is the 175 new or used?

For reference, I paid $200 for a new windshield installed about 6 months ago, however, windshields are easier to get and usually priced accordingly.

The funny thing with the back windows is the 88 will fit all the way back to the 78 but the 78 won't fit the 88 according to DOT. The reason being the G bodies that have the 3rd brake light cannot have any of the defrosting strips pass in front of the 3rd brake light. I found this out a many years back when I was looking for a back window at a recycling yard and they told me by the book the 80 window they had in a G body will not fit an 86
