I am looking for something that has a good rumble at idle but won't drone on me and won't piss people off ( I want to keep the volume reasonable). Cheap is good too. Right now everything is stock and i have a 305. (Edelbrock Performer intake going in soon)

I have narrowed things down to the Thrush Turbo or Welded mufflers, but it's hard making sense of everyone videos on youtube. The Welded muffler is usually on a cammed longtube not cat system, and the Turbo get installed on V6s. It's tough making a comparison. Anyone have advice?

I really like Magnaflow! It's really mellow and it's stainless -- sounds great vwith a 2.25" pipe!

The welded Thrush muffers are just Flowmaster knockoffs and have plenty of drone at part throttle cruise. I just got rid of the flows on my car and these new mufflers sound so much better!

A good cheap muffler is the summit brand mufflers. They are cheap and have excellent sound. I had a buddy with them on his 69' charger rt/se with a 440 and they sounded great.

Why bother with the muffler if you're only running a 2.25" pipe? It's kind of a waste.

I decided to give the Thrush Turbo a shot. $23.95 from Summit and I added it into another order so the shipping I consider free. After grinding to get the old muffler off I couldn't resist starting it up to hear what it sounded like. I got a good amount of looks from people as I drove past, but honestly the car was not as loud as I expected it to be. I guess between the cat and the pipes the flow is more consistent with more backpressure than i had expected. I stuck on the Turbo muffler with a piece of pipe to make up for the shorter size, and the car was much more hushed than I thought it would be. There is barely any difference from the muffler that came off of it (either stock or a stock replacement). I have read that they take a few thousand miles to "season" and open up, but I'm a bit let down right now. I guess I'll just be content with the experience and some small weight savings and I'll see what it sounds like in a few months. Now I wonder what a chambered muffler would have sounded like, with how quiet the car actually was. I'm glad it was just $24 bucks.

I now have more of a fire lit under me to get some headers and a real exhaust on this car.

Because it would be too loud without the muffler -- I'm guessing that your argument is that there wouldn't be any difference with or without but I didn't think that was the case...
