i have a 1976 chevy 350 (truck motor) in my 85 cutlass.. my temp sensor light is on and im looking to remove it to install an auto temp gauge to see when it starts to run hot.. but i cant find the sensor.. ive looked for day and have had others look but i cant seem to find it.. does any one know where it is located???

I've always seen the temp gauge on the front of the intake. And once on the upper radiator hose. Good luck.

Theres a couple places it can be, on top of the intake, or on the driver side of the engine block..in the pic this is where im going to run my temp sensor... Hope this helps

maybe if i take pictures u guys can help me cuz i cant find it

I wouldn't even bother looking for it. Id just install a new mechanical sensor in the thermostat hiusing or the drivers side block.

It's likely on the driver's side head between the #1 an #3 exhaust ports -- right where 80ELCAMINOFLAKE said. There should be a hole on either head. One will have a temp light sensor and the other is usually filled with a pipe plug. If it were mine I'd replace the sending unit for the stock warning light and add the manual gauge to the opposite head. That way you have both an actual gauge, and a functional warning light. I know it's usually easier to tap into the thermostat housing or the intake manifold but the temperature is more stable and accurate when read at the cylinder head.

I think it's further back on the 4.3s. Like between #3 and #5 exhaust ports.

I would also keep the idiot light and add the true temp gauge, I've seen them in the cylinder head and the front of th intake like others have already said. GOOD LUCK
