I'm picking up a 350 motor this week hopefully, and while it's out we're upgrading the camshaft among a few other things. I want a strong cam with a nice lopey idle. I have a Lunati Bracket Master II cam and lifter kit sitting in the garage right now...480 lift/292 duration. I've heard it on Youtube and it sounds pretty nasty. My other option was the COMP XE268, which sounded pretty good too. My question is which cam am I better off with? Would the Comp Cam be substantially better than the Lunati or am I going to be alright with what I have? Thanks a lot!

Would need to know more about the specifics of the 350 and your intended use to be much help. I'm partial to the Comp XE line. I've run several and never been disappointed.

depends on heads, intake, carb, headers, stock stall or aftermarket, good rear gears or highway gears, heavy car light car?? heads are most important on this list, if its a stock 350 upgrade heads or go xe262 or equivilent and upgrade the valvesprings around it and be happy. stock heads wont get you far and you'll have great low end torque. always go for performance over sound youll be happier everytime. nothing like pulling up on someone who thinks your car is slow and just laying him down other than sounding like one nasty BA prostreet car and not backing it up.. thats not cool. Or save up for a good set of heads a nice 60103 lunati voodoo 268/276 cam 227/233 @ .50 cam with a 2200 stall and 3.73s will put a smile on your face!!! But anyway, really need to know the specifics to give you better info.

It's actually a 355, and I'm upgrading to a set of 2.02/1.60 heads. Intake is an Edelbrock Performer Air Gap, Carb is a 750 Edelbrock Q-Jet, Hedman Hedders, Mallory Distributor, Transmission is a 200-4R with a shift kit, stock stall. That's about all I know for now...I know it sounds dumb but after putting all the money into it, I just want the lope lol. Nobody has anything like it up here (Upstate NY, almost Canada) I'm sure I'll be good with the Lunati cam, but if anyone else can chime in I'm always open for suggestions

the stock stall is kind of a problem. it's generally a good idea to have a higher stall depending how high the duration of the cam is. the higher it is the higher the stall should be to match the power band of the cam. JMO.

If your looking for the " Lopey " idle, then go grab one of those Thumper Cams..............But with your top end....why not go with the eddy performer rpm cam ( 234/244) 488/510 lift? It's dynoed for your intake.........They make great power from 1500-6500 rpm.............JMO here, scrap the eddy carb abd go with a holley 8)

Yeah I was thinking of going a little smaller on the carb...maybe a 600-650 cfm. I know it's a little large for my 305 right now...I am not exactly sure on the details with the heads are, but should know soon. The Thumper cams sound awesome but I heard they weren't the best. I'm just torn because I KNOW this Lunati sounds evil but I also KNOW the XE268 is a great performer. I planned on getting a stall converter after all this is done...what would you reccommend? It's got 3.73 gears in it right now also, don't know if I already mentioned that.

Looks like you are going with about the same setup my car had before my engine rebuild. I had a stock 200-4R, 3.73 gears, 355 SBC, and a set of 624 casting heads with 2.02/1.60 valves also stock stall in the trans. That was with a Comp Cams 280H cam and I ran a 14.33 1/4 mile with that setup.

I now have a set of Trick Flow heads and a shift kit in the trans and a new 280H cam and am very happy with it and hoping for mid to low 13s at the track this Sunday.

I was not at all dissapointed with the way the car performed with the stock heads, even though they were about the worst of the worst heads you could find ( from what I have found on several forums ) I do plan on getting a higher stall converter for it this winter while it is in storage, but for now I am quite happy the way it is.
