Thanks.

ok I cannot find the exact source right now, but there is a commonly agreed on that the cs style alts will need 35-500 ohms of resistance on the "L" line if you DO NOT have an idiot light. If you connect it without a resistor, the regulator will cook itself.

I found a post somewhere that someone checked the color codes on the NAPA adapter and verified it with a voltmeter. It was in the 500 ohm 1/2 watt neighborhood.

I just went from idiot light to gauges. I used a 470 ohm 1\2 watt resistor. So far so good. Btw I'm using a newer cs style alt

I'd keep the idiot lights along with the gauges, particularly for oil pressure.
You will notice the warning light straight away, unless you are constantly eyeballing the gauges you might not spot no oil pressure in time to prevent serious damage to your engine.
I used to help a friend with a racing mini, he and a few others used a 20lb pressure switch for the oil light, we reckon that saved his engine once when a rock broke his oil cooler.

Thanks dirtywhiteboy for the info. I used a 470 ohm resistor and the "new" alt and vuela, everything worked. I really appreciate the help guys. Now just have to install the speedo and water temp sending units and I will be good until I get my volt and oil pressure gauges in my a-pillar dual-pod trim. Thanks again. 😀

I hear ya rustyroger. That's why all my gauges have warning lights and alerts within them, that I can set to whatever limits of high and low(even the speedo).
