I believe you are correct. If I can locate the shifter and cable from my El Camino later today I could verify the fit. I know the console was sold with a bunch of interior parts years ago but I have to look to see if the shifter and cable are still around.
Sorry for the delay, finally found the shifter and cable. Measurements in inches as follows:
Clip at transmission: Length- 1.25
Width- 1.186
Between Opening- .688
Clip at shifter: Length- 1.068
Width- 1.040
Between Opening- .422
Standard brake clip: Length- 1.082
Width- 1.44
Between Opening- .500
The cable for my 2004R has a retention area at .399 at the shifter, .770 at the transmission bracket
They do use two different size clips at the different mount points.
My Turbo 350 set up in my 79 Monte Carlo has the same smaller clips on both end. The set up from the 86 El Camino is different.
Happy I saved the parts as the 2004R will eventually make its way into the 79.
Now I see what you're after. I understand being factory correct, but jinkies, make one unless you're competing in car shows where the judges are looking under the car with mirrors.
