New '85 Monte Carlo Owner

I just picked one up last Saturday. An 85 LS with a 305. 68K Original miles, and all of the paperwork minus oil changes dating back to 1986. The lady did give me the receipts for the last two of those. In due time, I'll get pics of it. It snowed here the last couple of days.

Anyways, I am not 100% in love with the instrument cluster. Mine does not have needles for voltage, temp, and there's another one with no needle. THe gauges are there, but I really would like to monitor that stuff should I take the car on a road trip. Not sure if it came like that, or what. I have seen a thread where people added on to theirs, but has anyone did a full swap? And if so, where did you purchase it?

It pretty much looks like this below with only the speed and fuel gauge having a needle.

LS didn't come out till 86. Does it have the composite headlights? Got any pictures? As far as the cluster swap I'm personally not sure myself, but I also plan on putting one in my car. So I'll be watching this. Welcome to the forum by the way.

I'm still new to this. Mine is not the SS model, so I assumed it was the LS. NO pics yet, but that cluster in my above post looks just like mine. Only difference is I only have a needle for the fuel, and speedometer. The others are there like in the pic, but no needles. The Tach has no numbers either. It's hard to get a pic until the weekend. It's usually dark when I get home.

Yeah it looks like this one. See I already learned something today. My summer projects are to do the stereo, replace some parts that I think might go bad and do the exhaust over. The lady that had it did the exhaust over some years ago and went with single because it was cheaper. it comes off to the side too which I never really liked. I want them to come straight back if they can. The stereo upgrade will be a lengthy process. I'll have to change the alt, add batteries, deaden the doors, floor and trunk, and put speakers on the doors.

I am glad I found this forum. I am not really a doer because my other car (99 Chrysler 300M) there is not much more you can really do to it. I will try to be more hands on with this car. Hopefully here I can find some ideas and bounce a few things off of you and others. But when I start to do stuff to it, I will post the pics here. 😀

Gauges if thats what your saying from idiot lights (no needles??)is not a big deal to swap as long as you have a new gauge setup..

I saw one on ebay that I think should work. Yeah I just saw that they are called idiot lights.......lol. Idiots like me need to know my voltage and temps from time to time.

Also, has anyone successfully put a remote starter on one with my motor (305 LG4 4BBL) I read that it could be done if the car starts up pretty good. Mine is ok. It came with a gas cutoff thing where you lock this little thing under the wheel and the car wont turn over.
