"whitey" doesnt own a car,he cant drive legally yet.But he does have a bicycle. His sister takes him to T-ball practice, though.

LMAO!!! You can definitely tell that because of a complete lack of grasp of economic realities. Plus, why use a term denoting race in your screen name? It makes everything you post look ignorant.

(i actually read this thread backwards) and, given whitey's comments, why am i NOT surprised he's a union guy? do you think he's A)out of work, getting paid a ton of money to sit on his *ss or B)has a job, sits on his *ss and still gets paid a fortune?

while i'd almost have mr.garrison's IT (from south park) than a fit or a yaris, buy the yaris. honda's are too much of a pain in the *ss on maintenance. they're also real picky about fluids. toyota's are generally harder to diagnose the CEL, but it's rarer and they don't need any special maintenance.

Well, I am going against the general consensus and trying to get the Honda simply because I like it better. It now all depends on a number of things happening and the planets aligning just right for it all to work out. I just started the process of refinancing my Mortgage from a stupefyingly high 9.375% down to around a 7% with cash out for the down payment on the car, and to pay off a debt to my family of $100 a month and give myself some more leeway. This all requires me being able to qualify with dubious income verification (tips) when Stated Income loans were just suspended by Fannie Mae. I have managed to raise my credit from "Berlin in 1945" to middle of the road, but I still do not know if it will work out. So, then I would need to find a dealer that does not want to add on a "marketing adjustment" to the sticker price, and me being able to qualify for a new car loan with my now improved ratios via lowering my mortgage payment by around $100 a month. So basically, I will have a new car on the same monthly expenses I have now. I will then sell off the Frontier for around $2k and put that money on the loan principle, then sell my AMC for around $4k and tack that on there too, thus killing the new car loan in under 2 years and freeing another $150-200 a month when I get to university to finish my degree. Killing the amortization by paying more early in a loan's life pays huge mathematical dividends due to the power of compound interest.( I have a financial calculator from when I was a mortgage broker and I am not afraid to use it!:lol🙂

I may wind up with the Toyota simply because I refuse to be gouged by a Honda dealer, and I think it is a good second choice-if less practical. I just don't like the styling or interior as much as the Honda. It also is on Consumer Report's 10 worst list, and does not fare as well as the Fit on most reviewer's lists either ( on Edmund's site, the Yaris is rated #28 out of compact cars while the Fit is #2 and the Civic #1 based on a system using all the new car reviews available). None of that is because it is a bad car mechanically, it is just not as nice to drive according to what I have read. I also don't like the red gauges ( I hate the color red), and the Honda has blue ones and a proper speedo position unlike the odd center one of the Yaris. That being said, the Yaris is available with radio delete and has a double DIN opening which could take a very nice stereo with navigation. It also has better observed fuel economy by most users on http://www.fueleconomy.gov than the Fit, so it's not a bad choice, just not my favorite.

I've owned different makes of cars my whole life,& have never been stuck on the "brand loyalty" rut like alot of people...even though 80% of my vehicles ended up being GM. But my family & I've owned Dodge,Plymouth,Pontiac,Toyota,VW,Mitsubishi,Chevy,GMC,Corvair,Rambler, etc. I've liked pretty much every one of them at the time & they fit whatever I wanted them for when I had them.I dont know what the hell whitehead driving, but if you only drive one type of car your whole life, youre not taking advantage of what other makes may have to offer. I'm totally for buying USA products (look what I own now), -=my Mitsubishi was built in the USA by Americans in Illinois,& its my daily driver...only paid $4000 on Ebay. So,Whitey, are you driving a Canadian car?

sadly even tho they dont have a nice modle.
Id buy a brand new GM if it was priced competitive.
Even with a dicount the cars are a minimum of 10g over priced.
if the cobalt cost 13000$ they would have sold a ton more.

Either way I vote honda fit.
I hate the fit because it looks like a roller skate, but I hate toyotas even more.

You can't lose with either one. I would hate to buy one used, but as a new car with a warrenty + great mileage how can you lose.

from my point of view ; I paid that much money for my 4 year old worktruck Astro / Safari van with no warranty and 16mpg !!!!

I also bought a dodge neon new in 1995 ( as a company car and a commuter ) for those exact reasons and put well over 300 thousand kms ( 200000 mi ) on the car over a 10 year period with no major repairs. The money I saved on fuel over the 10 years I drove thar car has almost paid for the car itself.

In short, if you are concerned about depreciation Honda has an edge over Toyota but they are both good cars in my books. I would even drive a domesic car if the price was right.

IMO I like the Fit, it looks like a stretched version of the Four-Two from Mercedes 🙂

is there an actual canadian car company? i know there's GM of canada and such, but that's the same as toyota of america.
