Ok putting in new carpet. How far do I cut out around factory shifter hump for new carpet

Cut your carpet just big enough to fit the shifter through and properly function. Your cover or center consol will lay over that and make e erything look nice... the jute padding or what ever kind of padding you use underneath cut that 1in. larger than the carpet hole

The trim won't fit over the capet. I'm thinking it has to be a bigger hole

is the carpet bunching up around the shifter and thats why its not fitting properly?

just use your judgment of trimming some more down little by little. you trim will cover it. you just dont want to have raw edges of carpet showing if you cut to big

do you have a preformed carpet for your car or is it just a roll that you have to cut and sew up?

Acc mass backed pretty fit. They don't make a molded carpet just for 4 speed cars. Theres a extra hump on floor

mebe007, I just went out to my shop and measured the hole in my factory carpet (I have a manual trans). Mine isn't cut square. Running parallel to the drive shaft and facing the dashboard, the left cut is 6" long and the right cut is 7 1/2" long. The back cut (towards the rear) is 5" long and the front cut (towards the dash) is 4 1/2" long. If you can borrow a hand held steamer (for spot cleaning carpet, etc.) it will help you form fit the carpet around the hump! You should try to form fit the carpet BEFORE you start cutting the hole! Always start by cutting a smaller hole and then enlarge the hole a little at a time so you have enough carpet that the stainless shifter boot hold down piece screws will go through the carpet. ...Good luck!

Got it before I saw this. Of course my hump is father back because I used a muncie but the hole kept getting bigger and bigger till it was right but you have to remove a decent amount. Now to cut in the edges. Thanks a ton guys

Of course I still have to paint the trim
