ELCAM, do you remember what you used to cut the old pin? I know you said you did it on the vehicle, wondering if they are as hard as the other hinge pinsUsed 5/16- 18, of course 8 mm is fine too.
Well here is the result. Your advice worked great. I did remove the hinge to install the new pin, and shave down the ramps as well.I used a Dremel with the cutoff wheel.
One of these reciprocating saws would work too.

you're rite-there's a point of diminishing returns with older cars as the lines were generous when new so it's work to make them thin.
