Are you "number chasing" or "performance chasing"?

What is the ultimate goal for the car?

What kinda et would make you happy?

I ask because I have had plenty customers chasing a certain number and wasting time on a dyno.

I get a car, make it reach thier goals and could give a dam what the dyno says.

Amen brother!!

Lumpy, also realize that a lot of those "great" magazine builds are just that, great for a magazine. As many stated here, don't just look at the final hp/tq numbers, but where those numbers occurs and the curve itself. Most of those powerhouse small-blocks are great on the dyno, hell on the street, especially in cruising and stop-n-go stoplight-to-stoplight situations. Most don't make power until well into the upper-rpm range, being dogs down below. With both hp/tq spiking about 42 ~ 4300rpm, the posted curve almost looks like one from the early Honda V-TECs - and those things didn't "get on cam" until about 5600 ~ 6000rpm, redlining at 7600rpm or so, making 180hp.

And remember, forged parts are strong but HEAVY. If you are doing this yourself you may want to add magnufluxing / sonic checking of core-shift of the block you get (even if it is a 4-bolt main). As with everyone else here, if your talking 500hp N/A then a 200 shot, even on occasion, that block better be up to it too.

Not trying to discourage you in any means, build the car the way you want to build it  , just trying to give honest info. Good luck and keep the questions coming.
