Hey all, new to the forum.

Recently had time this year to get the 79 monte back out of the shed and rebuild the 7.5 and get the car roadworthy again... It was at the point where I either mothball it or put some money into it and drive it again. I chose life. lol

This is my first car that I bought at the age of 14, which was about 20 years ago for me. I've owned many cars, but this one I've never been able to let go. I have dragged it in the past and it has had a healthy 406sbc with 700R4 between the fenders for about 10 years now. Last time I dragged it in the 1/8th it ran mid 8s on a stock converter. since then I installed a 2900 stall, and new jet performance quadrajet.

with the recent 7.5 rebuild, I took it back to my favorite gear choice- 3.42s with a detroit tru track locker. last time with this combo the car got low 20s mpgs.

It needs more work, but this will get it going for now.

LED headlights are on the way from Lumen, and I need to source some new bumper chrome trim, window weatherstripping and new weatherstrip/trim that goes along the top of the doors where it meets the glass.

These pics are a few years old, the car doesn't look quite as good now, but is more put together and definitely faster 🙂

She looks good!

Welcome to the forum. You've got a good looking '79 Monte. I love those pics taken in the field. Where are you located?

Are you gonna keep the car as a drag car?

Welcome from Iowa. Your car looks a lot like one I have been eyeballing in a corn crib hear in Iowa.

Welcome from Western New York and a fellow 3 gen owner!
