I am currently looking at a 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, what i would like to know is prone problems or rusting spots with the cars so i know what to look for. I'm aware of the frame rails in the rear fenders and behind the rear fenders on the quarters, both are good but those are the only spots i know are prone for many (at least in the eastern coast salt).

My final question is about a discussion i had with a friend of mine the other day about the rear ends in them, he's a muscle head and i've always been a tuner guy so i know very little about... most things from this era lol. It's to my understanding that these cars come with an 8.2 inch open carrier rear end, (correct me if i'm wrong). What would one suggest for a rear end? i've been told that the 8.2" stock rear end isn't the strongest one out there, just wondering what some people with expecience would suggest.

Thank you for your time, this looks like a great organization and i look forward to being a part of it.

if it is a supreme with the thick chrome trim try to check underneath it, when i took mine off i had a huge rot whole waiting for me. also if the vinyl top is bubbling, not a good sign. check the bottom of the doors and floor pans if possible

Alright, it does have the chrome trim but it may require to be taken off anyway, it looks like someone tried to rivet it on in a couple spots, from what i can see though underneath of it is fine, and it doesn't have a vinyl top so we're all good there. One thing that i wasn't too fond of though was when i opened the door water poored out of it for a good 30 seconds and the carpet was a bit wet. But i'm not sure where the waters coming from, it's got an aftermarket sunroof (sadly) so i assumed it was coming from there but the seats are dry as a bone so i'm having my doubts about that, could that just be bad door seals?
i'll list every problem i found with it.

Possibly bad door seals
Aftermarket sunroof
Small hole in the drivers side wheel well
some bubbling about an inch above the chrome trim on the passengers rear quarter
It's got a lifter tick or stick, i don't remember what my friend said (i'm not much of a mechanic)
It smokes a bit but that's to be expected

I fell in love with this car the second i saw it, i've loved the cutlasses since before i knew what they were, i always loved the front ends on them, the way it's curved.
The floor is solid, i love the awesomely comfortable sofas in it lol, power windows and locks (both work perfectly), i've noticed it's a little lacking in gauges but that can be fixed. The car is black, near mint condition, some minor cracking on the front bumper probably from bumping into things. And it's got 58000 original Kilometers (About 36000 miles) The price tag on it is $4000obo

About the rear end the car you are looking at cam with a 7.5" rear end. It could be open or a posi depending on what the original owner ordered. The 8.2" rear end came in A bodies like the 65 chevelle.

before you buy that just for a piece of mind go to the forsale section of our forum. look at the cutty in NY for sale and see what you can get for 3 grand...if you pay any more than 1500 for what you are desribing ur getting ripped off terribly

Thank you for letting me know about the 7.5" rear end, apparently i've been misinformed in the past. On the note of the price of the car, sadly, this is what they go for around here. The cars in eastern Canada have outrageous price tags for what they are. All older cars are that, this is actually cheap compared to some of the junk people want a fortune for. I was talking to the guy that owns it and he will sell for $3000. I've seen g-bodies with the frames nearly gone in spots and people want $3000-$4000 for them. And as an example my friend just bought a '79 Z28, solid body, for $6000 and it cost him another $1500 just to get it road legal, and that was with some major steals on some parts.

Thank you for the advice in the pricing and the one in NY. Though i would like to avoid bringing something up from the states, a lot of hassle. This is the best deal i've found locally so far, but i'm still looking around so i might find something better. The main thing about this car is it's hard to find ones around here that the frame hasn't rusted or cracked, the road salt and just the salt in the air hasn't been good to the cars over the years.

7.5 rear ends arent too strong, but its fine with a stock engine. You dont really need to upgrade unless youre making high horse power.

where abouts in eastern Canada are you...and I have heard from race teams in eastern Canada that the prices out there for rollers and used parts are higher.
