Joined the board the other day in preparation for getting myself a new toy. Today I bought a 1979 LeMans 2 door project car. In really good shape, 267 V8 auto bench seat car. Now to get it towed home and start figuring out what I'm going to tackle first!

Wow that's clean! A Pontiac 400 would be killer in that.

welcome to the forum, keep us updated with your work

Looks like we think alike. I picked up a similar project a couple months ago. I like yours a little better though. I like blue cars and yours doesn't have a Landeau top and doesn't have the Grand side moldings. I'll be making mine into more of a street/drag car so the tear down has already begun.

Wanna trade? My motor is already pulled!

Thanks guys! It is a really clean car, only 110,000kms. Typical "was my mom's car but she's gone into a home and can't drive any more" story. 267 V8 in it runs great, not a tick or anything. Only things wrong mechanically (that I've discovered yet anyway) is the power steering belt is loose causing one hell of a squeel, and the fuel pump leaks a bit. The body has a couple of small rust spots along the rocker but none have gone through, and there's a "scuff" on the RH rear 1/4 from when she rubbed a post in her underground parking garage. I already have an engine lined up (and it's free!) from a good friend of the family, a factory 300hp 350 V8 out of a 1969 Chevy Kingswood wagon. It's in pieces now but I had actually driven the car before it was scrapped and the engine was pulled, torn down and stored. He's also giving me a TH400 out of the same wagon. So my drivetrain choice is set, pretty sure the rear end is likely an econo-geared semi trac so I'd like to try to find a good posi rear with something like 3:73 gears. Am I wrong in thinking that a Regal T-Type/Grand National, Olds 442, or a Monte SS would have had that rear end? Also, I'm assuming it would bolt in, the A and G bodies were interchangeable? Getting her towed home tomorrow night, can't wait to have it in my own garage!

Nice pick, for your rear end take a gear and cage out of an 05 safari van with tow package and you'll end up with 3.73 ratchet posi system just like I have in my grand prix. and with this set-up 300hp you should be able to get mid 13's on the quarter mile just like my car.

Thanks for the tip! Never would have thought of one of the bread box vans for donor gears. Got the car home, tightened the belt and got rid of the power steering squeel. To say that the fuel pump leaks a bit was an understatement, going to have to replace it just to be able to start the car to move it around lol! Oh well, they're cheap and easy to replace.
