Awsome find. By chance could of that been one of the parade cars (guessing that what the extra cars are called) at the '81 race? Make sure to document all the graphics cause I don't think anyone is making them.

I believe it was one of the parade cars. And the graphics are a must as far as documenting them as I would like to have a graphic shop reproduce them

4.1L was in a lot of the full size Buicks and may not be that hard to find. The problem is the cash for clunkers program and the price of scrap metal years ago took a lot of cars to be made into re-barb. Awesome project you have. You could probably go to a vinyl sign shop and have the decals made

Yeah that seems to be my issue I can’t find any local haven’t searched a whole lot though. if all else fails I’ll just keep it a 3.8 and put the numbers matching engine back in.

Cool find! I can't say I've ever seen one before, or even heard of one for that matter. Love the patina.
Welcome aboard!
What's your plans for it? It would be nice to bring it back to it's original state, decals and all. However, the decals would probably need to be made by a sign shop, or a business that makes decals and such.

Right now as far as plans is get the car mechanically sound as the engine just sounds pitiful. I plan on cleaning it up and preserving the patina for now as I’m just unsure what direction I want to go as far as doing a complete repaint on it that will probably happen eventually but for now I just want to get it running and driving good and enjoy it. I do plan on removing the original wheels as the caps and wheels are pretty much non existent I think I will put a set of gold gta wheels on it

Sounds like a good plan. Focus on the mechanicals first. A future repaint can always be down the road. #148 out of 150 cars is not very many at all. Certainly a rare piece.
