One thing I didn't mention is the Vortec engine isn't drilled for a mechanical fuel pump so keep that in mind. You could run an electric pump and still go carb though.
Yes that's why I was going to try and go 95 and earlier. Then I can buy a mechanical fuel pump and save money and time rather than running an electric pump

Before you decide, don't knock the 350 Buick. As your car is right now, if your tranmission is in perfect working order, it is literally the easiet swap you could do. You could even use the same motor mounts. It's a wonderful motor. Unique sound, stronger than a SBC, lighter than a SBC, creates more torque than a SBC.... Not saying SBC are bad in any fashion, they are a great platform if you want to go fast for cheap. But, if you want to go fast with CLASS, well I think you know the answer. 😀

I agree completely with everything you said but my only worry is that the trans won't hold up behind a v8. It is in good working order and the car has 87xxx thousand miles. I don't know the weak points of the 3 spd trans I have though. Can you shes some light here?

Do you know if you have a Turbo 350 or a 200 metric? If it is a metric there will be a cable under the throttle cable that has a black lil nub on it. That is a TV cable used to control shift points. Plus it will say METRIC on the pan on the transmission. IF you have a Th350, the pan will look like Nevada, and will have a little vacuum modulator on the passenger side on the back. That controls shift points based on engine vacuum. If it has the modulator and a black plastic plug on the drivers side near the tailshaft of the transmission, it is a TH350C. That means it has a lockup torque converter and at speeds above 45 or so mph the torque converter locks 1:1 with the engine preventing the slipping that torque converters do by design, slightly improving MPG. If it's a Th200 metric, those things exploded just being parked. Junk it no matter what engine you go with.

If your car has a TH200 or TH200C you don't want to reuse it behind a V-8.

Yeah thats what I was thinking so I'll swap in a th350 because it probably has the 200 now

Thank you for the identification info. I'll check it out tomorrow if I get the chance. I'm pretty sure it's the 200 though and I've never heard good things about them

Yeah, there is nothing good to say about a Th200. A 6" tailshaft Buick Olds Pontiac bolt pattern (if you go with buick. Standard Chevy bolt pattern for anything else) Th350 would be a 100% drop in. Use all the bracketry off of your 200.
