So this winter/offseason Im going to upgrade my fuel system on the Monte. I run a modified TBI on a GMPP 350 and after some dyno runs I realized just how much power Im leaving on the table, 180hp and 240 ft lbs at the wheels. I went with TBI because I thought it would be cool to keep an original element of the car, and see if I could make some nice power and do something different than what everyone did in the past. But I figure Im leaving 100 hp and 100+ ft lbs on the table. Cant have that! And I dont want to run a carb. So here are my options Im looking at.

- Holley Terminator EFI http://www.holley.com/types/Terminator% ... ystems.asp

Pros: Large 4bbl design much better than Rochester 2bbl TBI. Internal injectors don't obstruct air flow. Computer designed for Nascar. It will likley have the throttle bracket for my 2004r transmission to keep the geometry correct. Self tunes.

Cons: Im afraid the 950 CFM design will be too large for my engine. Much like when you put too big of a carb on a motor and it actually loses power.

GMPP Ramjet EFI system.

Pro: Port injection will be more efficient and more accurate. Its already proven on this engine. Comes with the intake so Its works out to be about $6-700 cheaper.

Cons: Throttle linkage hookup is on the front passenger side, totally opposite of my current setup. Seems it will be nearly impossible to get the transmission hooked up correctly.

Thoughts?

The 950cfm is the max airflow of that throttle body. Unlike a 950 carb which is suppling fuel as well. The EFI will supply the amount of fuel needed and the engine will only pull the amount of air which is needs.

The Fast-EFI, which I have, is a nice kit. Easy to hook up. A fuel return is needed. And the kit I bought came with a fuel pump and lines. We got away from these at work simply because of the Fuel Return.

The MSD Atomic EFI can be setup as a returnless. It comes with a fuel pump and is probably the easiest I have installed. Run great. But for more of a performance engine I would put a fuel return on which is recommended by MSD.(theres a reason all factory EFIs have returns?) This is currently what we have been installing on engines and dont have much issues. The idle adjustment is pretty sensitive tho.

The Terminator EFI does NOT come with a fuel pump and lines. Which if you buy their kit its hella expensive.(never installed one)

The Edelbrock EFI looks identical to the Fast EZ-EFI and it comes with almost like a wireless tablet to set up and monitor all your readings.(never installed one but I think I want this for the Camaro when its at that point)

I have installed quite a few of the Fast and MSD setups. Stay away from Professional Products Powerjection. Those are junk. They were good before P.P took them over and it was just Retrotek.

With the FAST on my 434 I went from 10mpg to now 13.4mpg. Thats is what I got a couple weeks ago. The more you drive it the more it learns and the better it runs.

:bump: Yes ditto, what other options can be considered in staying with the same motor setup? A few questions...Are you running larger injectors than stock? Have you contemplated having your ecm reprogrammed? I am running a rebuilt 350 tbi in my monte for some of the same reasons you are. But now I am thinking of going witha 383 stroker and changing to the aforementioned items (injectors and ecm changes).

Thanks 79 that's some great info. I think the main thing it will come down to is throttle linkage. The 2004r is sensitive as hell and It took me endless hours to get it right. Its a miracle I didn't burn that transmission up. I've got return lines already since my factory EFI setup had them. Im going to replace them with braided lines and upgrade the pump to a wahlboro anyhow since I need to run about 45 psi instead of 13.

I know the Fast EFI and the MSD will use the same throttle bracket as a Holley. I have a Holley bracket on mine. But then again I dont have my trans kickdown hooked up. But I know we've used these with people with 700r4s without issues.

I'm quite familiar with TBIchips.com. Brian is kind of a dick. The only advice I didn't follow of his was a better fuel pump. I have a new Delphi pump for a 350 truck, but a higher performance Wahlboro or something similar Im sure would land me more power. What I do have is a machined 46mm TBI, 65lb flow matched cop car injectors, ECM from a 92 c/k 350 with a custom dyno tune. Adjustable FPR, Flo-tec headers and full 2.5 exhaust. I wouldn't recommend putting a 383 on a TBI system. I don't care what Brian says, its not going to work right and you're going to leave tons of power on the table. And possibly run it lean and melt the cylinder walls. The stars, moon and planets would all have to align twice for that setup to work.

If you're interested in modifying your current setup for some more power, I have a Holley 50mm TBI brand new I never installed just sitting around. Or when I remove my current setup I would sell you the whole thing together. GMPP Aluminum Vortec intake with the machined TBI and FPR all installed. It would definitely be a power upgrade from your current setup but a tune would be ideal to go with it.

Yeah 700r4 is a totally different ballgame. You drive a 2004r without kickdown and its spent after 2 stop signs. Literally.
