are factory non ac units really that rare or sought after and are they all that? i saw one in junk yard out of 83 -87 el co and i have one out of a 79 el camino i think im thinking about converting my malibu to a non ac car ive only met one guy locally who has a car set up that way but does any one know are they that rare? any info or pics would help

It really depends on where you live. Colder climates like up north had more non ac cars. But they are sought after by people who want to get rid of the ac but want to retain the heat functions. I just bought one for my 442 because I wanted a factory look without ac and didn't want the blockoff plate on the firewall.

If you pull that one out of the junk yard, make sure you take all related parts, cables, glovebox, steering column controls, dash trim, ductwork, dash controls, writing, etc. A nice complete system could fetch some good money.

If you have any misc. parts laying around I think I am in need of a top screen for the non ac box.

Let me look I'd not ill try to pull one off the junkyard one not sure if I can use the ducts I have or not I wanna get the ones guy had at junk yard too

That would be great if you could. Let me know.

As far as the ducts go, I don't know if they are car specific (chevy, buick, pontiac, olds) or if they all interchange. I know that non ac cars do not have the vent by the headlight switch or the vent on the opposite side of the dash closest to the passenger door. You do need non ac ducts though, ac stuff won't work as far as I know.

Some stuff interchanges, some does not. Get everything that pertains to the heating system, you will need it. I had gotten one off a granny driven regal for my Grand National, but one thing I forgot was the wiring for the fan switch, it is different. It was real easy to use the wiring diagram and splice the correct wires, but always best to have clean wiring in my opinion. That specific wiring goes up above the glovebox and then down to the firewall. And yes, a nice undamaged complete kit will fetch you some money. Don't forget the cowl vent (its different) and cowl weatherstrip.
