Now... not so Quick speedo cable question

Went to the parts store and picked up an 80in. The original is a 2 peice but this one seems to only be a 1 peice. I was thinking 100 would be too long.
Make sure you lube the cable and squirt some down in the cable tube. My speedo didn't come with an lube. I tried dry graphite powered and it was a mess.

Ok so pulling out the gauge cluster is not as simple as I thought it would be.

I've gotten down to the point where that sky blue box that holds everything together. I unscrewed it but I can't pull it for enough away to to get access to the cable. What am I missing?

I found the 80 inch to be too short, when routed in the original location behind the inner fender. The 100, while longer than the original, worked for me, and had enough length to actually pull the cluster out enough to release it from the speedo. There really wasn't a lot of extra cable under the floor, but I did make a larger sweep than the OE cable as it left the trans. It didn't seem like it was as flexible as the original was...could not replicate the bend the OE cable had at the trans speedo drive without feeling like it was going to kink. I also had issues with the core length, might just be the gear I was using, as nobody else has commented on this.

If I'm not mistaken, I also used the 100" cable and had to loop it. It does not affect the speedo function at all. Having the extra length of cable, as Brian suggested, makes it easier to pull the gauge cluster out when needed.

I'm still fighting trying to get the old one out. Since the old one was junk anyways I just cut it. I've pushed it through the firewall but the cluster still only moves out an inch or so

Make sure there's no other obstructions holding it back. Also make sure the shift indicator cable is disconnected...check to see if all surrounding screws are loosened and removed...the next thing would be, besides the speedometer cable, the gauge wiring connector.

I figured it out. I had to remove the entire bezel though. Cables in now and hooked up. Putting stuff back together now. Had to trouble shoot the lights not working but got it figured out. Once I got it back together I'll take it for a spin and see if it worked.

Well the speedo does work but seems to be about 10mph off. I guess this has to do with the swap to the th350. No buggy though I got something now at least
Sounds like you probably don't have the correct speedo gears.
