I'm looking to shift my own gears in my malibu and I've been looking at different transmission's to use. I've looked into the T5, TKO and T56 going into a Gbody but I've never heard of anyone using the nv3500. I think they used it in S10's so I'm guessing it should fit. The nv3500 also came in bigger trucks so it has to be tougher.

I think the NV3500 would be way to big. i just looked at the one in my 98 Ram 1500 and the to of the transmission would probably be higher than the top of your seats when properly mounted. It is strictly a truck transmission. they are not very strong either. Dodge wouldn't put anything bigger than a 318 in front of them because they could'nt handle the torque. I think Chevy used them as a light duty truck trans only, too.

I did this swap in a 85 monte I had. I used a nv 3500 out of a 91 s10. I also used the clutch pedal and master and slave cylender. I can't remember all the detais since it was over 5 years ago i did this but i loved it. had it not been for lack of funds after blowing the engine i would still have it.

The big question is, how did it fit in the tunnel? The NV3500 looks a lot taller than the normal car manual transmissions.

They are wider too. NV3500s are rated for 300 lb-ft of torque
