This is the second time my belt has jumped a rib on the crankshaft pulley...

First time I noticed, it was the last belt I had on it, the belt stripped from the same side...

I just replaced the 8" balancer with a 6.75" balancer, and a friend told me maybe because of the different height size balancers, would mean different depth sizes but after measuring the depth on both balancers, they are the same...

...so balancer is crossed out from the list of possible causes.

He said the another possibility he can think of is the crankshaft pulley being wrong depth size, causing the belt to jump a rib...are there different SBC crankshaft pulley sizes between cars and trucks ?

What do you guys think ?

Question now, is the balancer bolt I have too short, causing it not to catch and bottom out ?

It does without the washer on it ...

Lol of course not, I used it as it should be...the same way I used it as I explained in the timing chain thread...

I have a 27 minute video to share if I want me to upload it and watch it...

If not, this is how the tool is used and how I used it...
I don't know what "Lol of course not" implies/answers?
I don't want to watch a 27min video for an answer....

Did the balancer move in more which aligned the pulley w/the others. Yes or no?

Yes I pressed the balancer back all the way and it is correctly aligned now...
Ok, yes.... You were able to align the pulley by moving the balancer in further.
Post #29 indicated that was not a possibility.

I must have missed the post where you told the group "Guys..... you were right. The balancer not being pressed all the way on was the cause of the belt alignment issue."

Have you compared the length of the bolt to a new one from a parts store? That might tell you if yours is different in length.

Beyond that.... If it engages the threads w/o the thick washer (it is supposed to have that thick washer) yet doesn't engage w/the washer in place, I would guess you need one that's longer.
