Will a chevy 1983 305 oil pan fit a 1973 chevy 350 block. The dipstick is on different sides but will it work. Question 2 is what year chevy z28 had the high pressure pump not high volume. Used to know the year and mellings part number but I dont anymore.

The 350 is going into the Monte Carlo. Cant wait.

you can use the stock pump and just change the relief spring to get higher pressure...I use a BBC pump which give me a little higher pressure and about 15% more flow

IIRC the pan has to fir the block in terms of dipstick side. other than that a 305 should switch to a 350 no problem.
are you sure you NEED a HP pump?

Probably dont need the high pressure pump but dont want to run a high volume one either. When I used to build motors with dad we would use a higher pressure pump from a z28 but I cant remember the year or part number. I have done the spring change on the pump before but never knew I could use a BBC pump. Just want to keep up good pressure and a little extra flow wouldnt hurt either.

and to use the BBC pump I used a shaft like this...it fits the same as a SBC pump

Already have steel sleeve for pump. Always had good pressure when it was in my elky. Just figured I would be there already I may as well change it as I dont know what pump is there. I was told not to use hi volume vs hi pressure many years ago but i am not sure any more. Any input. If i grab a BBC pump how much will I have to change to make it work. Or i may just use the kiss theory.

Like I said it installs the same as a SBC pump. The size of the tube for the pick up is larger so you'll need one of those and the clearance from the bottom of the pan is the same as the SBC pump pick up. I used a Melling M77 pump BIG Block Chevy Standard Volume

Found oil pump that I was looking for. It is from the small block chevy 302 Camaro. It actually has the higher pressure at idle I was looking for. Also found the white spring p/n so I can order from the dealer and upgrade a pump for better pressure. Still dont know what kind of oil pan I want to run yet because mine is damaged from bottoming out. Not sure if headers will affect which pan to run. Of course I want emission legal headers but dont want to spend big $ either. Well off to pick n pull to see if I can get a stock pan with drivers side dipstick for now. Just need to go strip it down as I did get the engine out of the ElCamino and find out whats in the bottom end. Later guys and thanks again for all the great info. G-body forums is my homepage. How about you guys.
