Hello and hows it going? So I am putting a 454 in a 84 monte, I was working on getting my headers in place last night and I noticed the that the oil pan is ever so slightly touching the cross member at each corner of the pan. In my mind it doesn't seem like it would take long to rub a hole through the pan if I leave it as is. I am just trying to figure out what my best course of action is...should I dimple the pan with a hammer, do some grinding of the cross member, or a combination of both? On a less serious note, the brake line that traverses the cross member is also contacting the oil pan in the same general area. I was thinking maybe I could put a rubber sleeve over it to protect it from rubbing through...I would appreciate some thoughts on that issue too. Here are a few images, hopefully they are clear enough to see where my problems lay.

Do you know what the engine or the pan came out of?

what is the condition of your engine and transmission mounts
I just replaced the motor mounts with new rubber oem replacements...but now that you mention it, I do have the transmission out of the car right now. I should probably get that put back in before I start beating on stuff...I am guessing getting that all bolted up and sitting on the trans cross memeber might change the geometry enough to give clearance

I honestly don't know, the motor was put together quite some time before I became the owner. I looked up the block casting numbers a while back and all I got was that it was out of 70s-80s gm car or truck. I am kind of hoping that putting the transmission back in solves my problems.

putting the trans in should lift the rear of the engine a little bit,

if the pan still hits you have a van or truck oil pan that will need to be changed

Thanks for the input, hopefully I can get the transmission back before too long and find out one way or another.
