jrm81bu- see those transmission mount bolts in the back of the engine? That's where I would mount it with a big clamp. Close, solid, yet out of sight.

A person probably could do that but that picture makes it look like there is more room than there really is. Especially after you tuck the sending unit in there, tightening the bolt could be problematic. And then with my set up, i'd have to take the blower of if I ever needed to access it.

Steve and Jack, you can see where mine was in this pic if you look close. I think I had a 2" pipe with a 90* at the end of it. My sending unit is also smaller than a stock style i believe.

James,
I ended up using the 2" pipe nipple method and two 90 degree fittings...couldn't find a 45 deg. anywhere.. :? The sending unit fits between the distributor and the kick down bracket and spring. It barely fits, but it's it's in there. I'll try to post a pic of it later.
A small, stubbier sending unit might have been a better fit.
I guess these larger sending units were meant to fit above the oil filter.

Glad it worked out for ya Jack. Only other thing I could say is just to be careful when working around it. It doesn't take a lot to break it off.

I still can't find it, but then I can never find Waldo either.

Thanks James!
I'm not 100% satisfied with how close it fits to the distributor. It actually looks like it's touching. This might be a temporary solution until I can figure out something better. It will work in the meantime, I suppose.
Of course, I would have liked it to fit closer down to the block. At least I'll be able to check the gauges for function.
