I have a question on my 82 Bonneville wiring. It had a 3.8 Buick V6 and I’m putting a SBC in it. I was able to get a gauge pack for it to convert it from the dummy lights. The oil pressure sending unit is a one wire switch which is right for an 83 Bonnevile with a 305. (305 was not available in 82). The 3.8 had a three wire switch.
I believe one of the wires is for the choke but not sure about the other one. I’m hoping someone can give me info on how to wire this..Thanks in advance..

Will you be using both the gauge & a choke light (if in the center light cluster)? Will you be using the electric choke? If so you'll still need to keep them in use. When I originally did my gauge conversionI cut & spliced the tan wire work the gauge off the gauge sender, spliced a new circuit off the three wire switch to the dash harness to use the choke light.

Ok , so I’m not the best with electrical wiring. The plug has three wires .
The tan is for the gauge. Depending on the oil pressure it will be between 0 -90 ohms which moves the gauge.
Do the other wires get power or are they grounds too? Sorry for the questions but thanks for your responses.

To give you an idea of your stock set up on the oil pressure switch, the tan it for the oil light, the brown is the fused power from the choke fuse, the light blue goes to the choke. You can leave the brown & light blue wires as is, cut & splice the tan for the new pig tail for the gauge switch. Leave enough tan wire in the the original pig tail to splice the wire to run to the choke light if used (its a green/white striped wire on factory gauge cars in place of the tan wire,)

The light brown is for the gauge, one of the other wires is power, the oil sender also acts as the switch to send power to the choke when the oil pressure is present, the other wire goes to the choke.

It's a neat little system. I used it on my 350, but my situation is a tad different than yours.

Thank you, that makes sense. I still haven’t figured out what I’m going to do but that really helps.

for the switch for the coil it doesn't matter which terminal you connect each wire to. It's just an open and closed switch
