Performer is just an aluminum version of the stock manifold. For best street performance and manners, it's hard to beat.

It's going to be impossible to make that motor see 10 seconds with only $2500 bucks and even if you did make a 10 second motor it wouldn't be to street able. You should just put it together using stock parts and like they've said, enjoy the Pontiac torque in stock form then add goodies later on.

Since you are starting from scratch you must first understand that the whole car must be upgraded to get into the 10's. If you are planning on this car being your primary mode of transportation then that is not a goal to look for at this stage. Do you want to be able to turn those types of numbers with the 406 route or are you thinking about stroking your block out? Cheapest guy I have found for quality parts in the pontiac hobby is at PPR(Pacific Performance Racing). He also sells the rods and pistons separate. http://www.pacificperformanceracing.com ... ating.html
All of his kits include balancing and he answers the phone when you call. Next question is can you do your own assembly work on the engine or will you have to pay for it? That makes a huge difference in cost of putting together a strong bottom end.

Ace at PPR is good.

Check at the following also for the stroker rotating assemblys, Butler, Kaufman, Pontiac Dude etc.

Paul at Spotts Performance does all my & customer work.

Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples, some have cast parts where others are forged. You can get 460+ cubes out of a good 400 block which is what you want for a dual purpose car.

I went the other way, destroked a 455 to 440, but I built a screamer (by Pontiac standards anyway) shifting at 7200.

A balanced forged stroker kit with SFI balancer/flywheel is going to eat up close to $2000 of your budget.

This is where you need to spend money. You can even throw a stock set of 6x heads on it for now, then upgrade at $ comes in.

Thanks for all the info shotgun. I had been looking around at some of the stroker kits and I think that is the route I will take. Everybody online is saying the cast cranks are just as good as a forged. What is your opinion on that? If they are I might just go with a cast crank and forged rods and pistons. That would help a little in the budget department but we just make those to break them right. I found this kit http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Budget-P ... ccessories but don't know if its any good. Also I was looking at one of the kits butler has for 455-468cu for $1349 or do you think I should go with an all forged bottom end? Another question was I read the #16 heads with the big valves were a pretty good head. Do you think it would be cheaper to have the valves machined out or look for heads with a bigger valve? From all the literature I've read my heads should be 1.96 1.66 and would need to go to the 2.11 1.77 correct? Also how much clearance work to I have to do to the block for the stroker kit?

Also guys this is not going to be an everyday driver just a nice weather cruiser and a little fun at the track. I guess I would have to say I would still like it a little more to the streetable side of the spectrum. I know I will not be able to go 10 seconds on 2500 bucks but for 2500 in the motor I would like to have a strong bottom end to be able to build on and I think shotguns got me on the right track. I can install and put the parts together myself or at least I think I should be able to. I have played with Chevy and ford motors just never Pontiac's. Again guys thanks for all the answers and the learning experience.

I know it hurts but spending a little more once is cheaper then buying twice. Build for strength esp with N2O in the future.
It look me years of planning and part gathering to do the drivetrain in the Cutty. My motor has a Moldex billet crank, billet caps, Oliver Rods, Ross pistons etc etc and I have 5k into it. If you called any guys I listed above said deliver a crate motor that meets my specs i bet it would top 30k.

Until you decide the bottom end don't worry about the heads, if you go 460+cubes the compression on 16s will be threw the roof. Compression for the most part on Pontiacs is controlled by the head chambers.

I have an idea about making your streetable motor run tens on N2O but would rather talk off line about it.
