Old Chevy Commercial.

The Marlin wasn't in the same zip code as a SS396 in 1966, and the Charger didn't come out until 1966, so if this was filmed in the fall of 1965 or early 1966, they may not have been able to get a hold of a new Charger. If the Charger had the Hemi, it would have wasted the SS396 in the 1/4 mile and top speed, so maybe that was better left ignored.

Did SS396's get front Disc brakes std? that would explain the braking distance if they did.
Chevelles didn't get disc brakes until 67'. Chevy made a big deal of the introduction by introducing the rally wheel with the "disc brake" caps. This is a bit hokey dealer promo which was designed to help salespeople (salesmen in 66) identify and use the features of the car to outsell the competition, this would have come in a sales kit and wouldn't have been for public consumption.

Damn that was hokey. Thanks for posting though.

Hokey, yes, but i appreciate the sarcasm and the jokes are actually funnier than a lot of what passes for comedy, today.

The cracks about the GT being a GTO, but without the O were classic.

That was...odd. surprising that they put it up against other GM A-bodies rather than the Fairlane and, say, a Charger or even a Marlin. And why did the Chevelle stop 3 car lengths shorter than the GTO?

Also, it's unnerving to realize that the chick in the cage shaking her junk is probably pushing 80 now.

The post that finally convinced me to watch the video -- ha

I like the Twilight Zone spoof -- cool retro sales video.

It did off the line, but being a Chevy commercial, it may have been rigged, too.
Yeah, the GTO got a big jump on the Chevelle. I too believe it was rigged for promotional purposes. I really think the GTO would've pulled him down. It was probably the lower HP 4-bbl version.
Also, a 390 Fairlane isn't a slug either, but being a GM promo, they had to downplay the Ford's performance.

Actually, "Tony the Tiger" had it to 1000' or so; I bet he lifted. I don't know if you noticed, but in the aerial shot with the Chevelle doing the reverse J-turn, it has "Tiger Tamer" down the side of it- old school, subliminal advertising?

Granny Turismo also should have had the only 4 speed in the group, because it was a GT. The Automatics were GTA's.

No way a 335 HP Fairlane could hang with a 360 HP Chevelle, though... that's what the 427 was for.

I agree, the Fairlane GT was outgunned and had a little more advantage with the 4-spd,...and you're right again, the GTA was the automatic version. If it was the 427 (Thunderbolt) it would've easily smoked the competition. But then again, it would've had the horsepower/ torque advantage.
