We acquired a 63 impala ss with an extremely built numbers matching 327. The hei distributor now doesnt have power unless we use a jumper wire to the 'R' terminal on the starter. As soon as we pull that jumper wire off it dies. What would be the reason for this? It was fine two days ago and all of a sudden it did this...

why not figure out why the power wire isn't feeding the distributor. The r connection was used with points distributors and ballast resistors to put a full 12v on the coil when cranking the engine

Trace the wiring from the hei into the harness. It's possible they left the fuseable link in the harness and it's blown. I could be wrong, can't remember if they're in the ignition or charging circut. :blam:
