There are a few other oil system mods that can be done. I have done all that I can find for the most part and they kinda of all work together. Mine is a street car biult like a track car. I haven't had a problem with oiling system. I also use valvaline racing oil beause there is more stuff in it. I did break it in on the rottela diesel oil and an additive.
 
Well I figured id update this thread. My dad ordered a new Lunati hydraulic flat tappet after talking to a tech there for over an hour. I dont have the cam card on me but he matched it to the specs of the Edelbrock heads. We went to break it in and everything seemed fine but it started getting hot(about 220-230) half way through so he shut it off. We fired it back up and finished the break in procedure without much of an issue except timing toward the end. The headers were GLOWING. Fast forward to tonight as we are pulling plugs we are seeing that almost all of the plugs are fouled out. Then we get to #4 and #6 and we find water 😢 I have my dad bump the starter and I see water shoot out of #4. So now I know what has to be done but im trying to keep my dad from just selling the ****ing thing. I really dont know where we go from here but I figured I would update anyway.
 
That's to bad man, it sucks when things go to hell. You definently have a very rich condition if the headers are glowing, or a very aggressive cam. Circle track motors can make headers glow in the garage at 3,000 rpm because of the massive overlap between the exhaust and intake just fills the headers with raw fuel. Good luck, don't give up on it

Don't you mean a lean condition? Plus engines do try to get a little warm during the 20 min break-in.

Where did the coolant leak come from? Head gaskets or intake?
 
I checked the oil and there isnt any evidence of a leak there. I dont think 230 is too hot to really have warped anything too bad. The water only shot out of #4 but the plug was wet on #6. So if its the head gasket im thinking it burned out in between the two. Like what everyone thought happened to my Cavalier in my other thread a few months ago :lol:

I would think the glowing headers would be from raw fuel burning in the headers. This engine has ALWAYS run a little rich with the Demon 750. The fouled plugs proved that. In fact im kind of wondering if that's the reason we lost the cam. The slick synthetic oil being diluted with raw fuel.
 
Glowing headers can be from either condition but in this case it sounds like you are really rich.

Did you do any jet changes with that 750 demon? If not then that is definitely the problem. Those things come jetted super fat. The 750 on my 403 came with something like 85 jets in the front and 90 in the back. I had to drop it down to 75-77 jets in the front and 80's in the back.
My 850 demon came with 88 jets in the front and 93 jets in the back. WAY rich! My 455 looked like a diesel when I got on it. I had to drop it down to something similar to the 750.

I think he did jet it down a little bit when he got it. Evidently not enough.

No I meant rich, you would be piston shopping if you made headers glow from a lean condition
 
Im gonna try to get him to open it up and look at it but right now he doesnt even want to look at it. The cylinders werent filled and the oil isnt contaminated so could we get away with just putting new head gaskets in it or do you think the heads could be warped or cracked since it reached 230º?
 
Well guys I have an update. My dad was messing around with it today and discovered that the head bolts surrounding those cylinders had come loose! Not hand loose but enough to be able to tighten with a basic wrench. He followed all of the directions and specs when he put the heads on. What would cause head bolts to come loose? Directions didnt call for thread locker just motor oil. Also since the bolts were loosened from spec is it possible to have warped the heads? Thanks for any input guys
