Olds Heads

From classic oldsmobile:

These are the 7A heads you want. Hope this helps you understand what is meant by subscript and where the ID numbers are located.

Thank's I looked again at my motor and the heads have a big 7 and a small A. Are these some good heads? Do they do well on an OLDS 350 or they are suppose to be on a 307? If they belong on a 350 rocket should I have them redone when I get my motor rebuilt?

So they look like the heads in my last pic then? The numbers that is. If that is the case then ya I would just use them if your going for a mild-moderate 350 build.

Yes mine look like those in the picture. So I can get mine redone.

Do they look like the last pic. If they don't then they aren't the ones you want. Like I said before. If they are the 307 heads it will have a 7A, both characters are the same size and right next to each other not subscript like in the pic I posted.

IIRC, 442.com has the specifications of all the SB and BB Olds heads, 7's got 1.995/1.624 big valves and also the 1.88/1.56 valves and 7A's had similar sized small valves.I'm running a set of teardropped/mildly ported 7a's on my 350 that have been cut down for more compression.

7 and the 350 7A heads were alright as well. The 7's got the big valves and had small combustion chambers.

Where did you get this information from? The 7 and 7a heads are practically identical. In fact the 5,6,7, and 7a heads were all pretty much the same except for the 5 heads on the W31 350's which had bigger valves.

Minion1186, the Olds FAQ site has ALOT of bogus information. 7 and 7a heads came with the same valve sizes ( the small ones ) and combustion chamber size. Due to factory tolerences, you can find some heads with more or less chamber volume, but they were all speced out to be the same. 68-70cc is about average chamber size for all of the early 350 heads, not the 64cc that FAQ site claims.

Agreed, all small block heads had the small intake valves except the W-31/Ram Rod 350 heads which had 2" intakes. The #4 330 head has a 64 cc chamber and is a great iron head for a small block.
