No other good Ford engines? Where have you been? There's that crazy little 2 liter 4 that made over 400hp in the Ford RS200, then there's the Boss 429, Boss 302, Cammer 427, 427 side oiler with a medium riser intake, the 428 that found it's way into the last Cobra 427's, the 428 SCJ, Oh yes, and has anyone ever heard of a British Escort Cossie (Cosworth)? Then there's even the killer 351 Cleveland found in the Australian Falcon GT/HO Phase III (Mad Max's yellow patrol car).
I have never owned a Ford myself, but I have a lot of respect for the cars they have made. Pretty much every manufacturer has made something interesting or good at one time (Kia excepted :lol: ).

I said I didn't think there were any Ford engines I considered great. There were a few good ones. :wink: Most of those engines you mentioned '85 Brougham were racing engines, very limited quantity production engines, or ones just not found in America. If we keep it to used engines you can go out and buy for a few hundred bucks, the roller lifter 302 is about the only thing Ford has to offer that is worth a sh*te.
For the Olds 403 Brethenry....
Once you get it installed and tuned up, you'll find its 310 ft/lbs of stock torque a lot of fun to play with out on the street. I could keep secrets to myself, but it will easily embarass many off the line who have engines they have spent thousands on with Jegs and Summitt bolt on crap to make their big RPM's and HP that are virtually useless on the street, and just suck gas and make no one but the Arabs smile.

I'll definitely agree on the wonders of low end torque. My 350 was built with low to mid RPM torque in mind and you barely even have to touch the gas to get it moving. Fuel economy isn't bad, and the parts are cheaper. Plus, torque engines tend to be a bit more reliable than high strung horsepower engines since they run at lower speeds. If you gear right for torque, it's hard to go wrong in a street car. Just don't run 2.14's or 3.73's and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Speaking of Ford Fairmonts.... My brother raced one back in the late 80's with great success . He won third place in 87 , fourth in 88 and took top money winner for 89 . It was a stock bodied fairmont with a 306 . It was a hell of a bracket racer . Those finals were in Bristol , Tenn . Now he races a 92 thunderbird (back Halfed ) with a 500 ci BBF . which going from a 347 stroker to the big block netted a pinion yanked completely out of the 9in nod housing on the 5th pass..... that was fun !
Yep, they even put the Chevy bowtie on the front 😀 They were good on the strip due to their light weight, provided the body structure had some re-enforcement.
