Just curious, but what sorts of things do you shop for online, and what do you actually buy online vs in an actual store?

As for me, I buy lots of the little things I need off sites like E Bay. I find computer related accessories to be far cheaper buying directly from Chinese sellers than going to the store to get similar items. I also buy other things there that I can't find elsewhere, like sound deadener, etc.

off topic, but as far as sound deadener, are you refering to dyno-mat? is your car dyno-matted? if so how much did it cost on ebay for enough to do your car?

I buy lots of stuff off of eBay, and I usually order stuff from Jegs or YearOne online so I don't have to talk to some idiot on the phone.
Although one time I put in a $1700 order thru Jegs, and they made me call in person the next day to confirm it, so there went my plan to avoid people!

Well, I plan to use a Dynamat substitute off E Bay which costs $100-150 for enough to do the whole car including shipping. I don't have it yet as my budget is pretty slim right now, but it will be done after paint and before interior installation. Now of business would only pick up where I work, I could get this car cosmetically finished (relatively) in about another month. I will have it painted next week if I can get the booth, then I need: window tint, sound deadener, wet sanding and buffing materials, window sweeps, 1 trim piece, door speakers, a headliner, and a few other miscellaneous items I may find while doing assembly.

I like EBAY as there are a lot of things I don't need but when I get to surfing that site I realize they are kind of cool an buy them anyway.

You have to be careful with EBAY as often if you google around the person wants the same as you can get elsewhere and almost EVERYONE charges way more for shipping than it actually costs to ship.

Usually I stick to Amazon.com and look for items I want that qualify for super saver shipping so I don't pay for shipping.

Example: looking at a bike rake for my mountain bike. Local shop wants 289. I will have to pay tax on that but no shipping. Amazon has the same thing for 249 and no shipping and no tax.

I buy a lot of frozen meat for my dogs online as it is easier to get what I want than to buy it the butcher. Still, I get a lot of chicken necks and chicken backs locally as they save them for me.

Lets see,
I get groceries, need to have now items, prescriptions and some other stuff depending on terms, locally.
So if a item that can be gotten online and I can wait til it gets shipped comes in at a much lower price, more than 5% lower, I shop it online.
Item type does not matter what it may be.
Also some of the online stuff I do actually goes locally.
I can buy items from Wal Mart, Sears, JC Penny's Lowes etc online and pick them up in the store at the pickup window cheaper than I can buying it off the shelf. I've actually tried clothes on in the store, used the old ladies cell phone and ordered it online, browse the mall a bit while it gets ready and gone back and picked that item up at up to 30% than the store one.

Tax return wise, I don't shop online at all!!!
