Ontario is planning on photo radars to be installed this coming January. They plan to put them in school zones and safety zones. I doubt that many drivers will be at 40 kph going through a school zone at 3 am. Plus the tickets are mailed out 6 weeks after so how many drivers will remember where they were 6 weeks ago. It's just another money grab but it looks like Quebec's ruling will help us keep some money in our pockets so keep this article in mind...

They installed them here last year...school zones and along our Ring Road (circles the city to get from one end to the other). Our school zones are in affect from 7 AM to 10 PM.

I am so on the fence about this. Its a cash grab that could easily be put in place in other places. However.... I drive thru 5 different school zones every morning on the way to work. I drop to the "posted with flashing lights" 40 kph and get swerved around, honked at, even yelled at for driving so slow. There is an Audi I see at least once a week that cruises thru one stretch at least double the limit. Makes me crazy ! I want to get out of my car and choke her when I come rolling up behind her as she's stopped at the next light.
I don't know if I am getting old and cranky but these guys need to slow down and this is one way to do it without taking a LEO off their beat and sticking them on a radar trap

On a side note , I seen in the last month or so . The city of Toronto installing the red light runner's camera equipment at many new intersections . Did the city not stop using this years ago ? Guessing it's coming back. Sadly I have to agree with this since stopping at red lights appears to be optional in Toronto.

Radar and red light tickets don't go against the driver, the owner of the car gets the ticket. There is also no points associated with the tickets so if the driver/owner has enough disposable earnings then the tickets have no effect except to increase the government's coffers. Also when the red light cameras have an effect and fewer tickets are issued they take to the red light camera to another intersection where they have already calculated high earnings. The red light cameras have little to do with safety and is merely a byproduct of the real intent to grab as much money as the government can.

7AM to 10PM???? That's absurd.

we have it in Manitoba for school zones and constructions zones I dont have a problem with it on schools day but they set up on Sundays and holidays and handout tickets and Midnight at construction zones and that is a cash grab it does not go against your licensee just your bank account and the fine doubles for construction zones so very easy to get a 700 dollar ticket

You guys need to vote some folks out of office. I'm all for protecting kids and construction workers but that stuff is ridiculous.

I definately did serve some detention, but not much. I also was in the band from 6th grade through 12th grade so I seldom went home at the end of the regular school day. Here in Texas, school zones are only effective for an hour or two at most in the morning and in the afternoon to cover the peak times when the vast majority of the kids are coming and going, not to cover any conceivable time there might be a kid at the school. I see the merit of the more conservative approach but being as I didn't grow up that way, it seems pretty excessive to me.
