I installed one in a 71 Chevelle for a guy as a replacement motor for his grenaded old school 350.
The zz4 is a superb street engine, and has plenty of grunt for moving a car that size.
With hypereutectic pistons, it's not quite nitrous ready, nor is it a ridiculously powerful engine in crate form. However, it's really ready for some heavy street use and occasional racing.
It's a great street engine. I can't say enough good things about it.
i bought a 350 H.O. which costs considerably less than a zz4, or at least it seemed to when i was searching. If i were you, id buy the 350H.O. and then buy the lt4 cam kit, because that is my plan right now. Im gonna swap out the cam once my 2 year warranty is up. I read about it on Carcraft.com where it made 400hp and 428 ft/lbs - more than the 355hp the zz4 has. Thats my two cents, but if you have future plans and want aluminum heads,,then zz4.
Jones this a great plan for your car and thanks for the link. 400HP 428TQ is very strong relatively inexpensive and still a streetable pumpgas smallblock. Have you ever run your car down the quarter with the HO motor?
unfortunately no, it's something i have to do next summer since im at school right now. I only have 215/65/15s on it all the way around so traction is a major issue, which is why im considering having the rims widened so i could get 255s on there..its either i spend money on that, or buy the cam i mentioned above. If anyone else has the same setup as me, please post 1/4 times cuz i'm really curious. thanks
