In my '85 442, we took out the driveshaft to change the pinion seal and the output shaft seal and noticed that the output shaft has a fair amount of play.

Can anyone tell me how much play is normal when the output shaft is sitting without the yoke attached?

Its normal to almost sit on seal if it 200r4 seeing how the driveshaft on these trans keep it center and support it. On that trans there is no output shaft support it relize on the driveshaft. The slop is normal.
