Very unfortunate thing to happen 🙁

The loss of oil pressure is most likely due to a bearing failure. Especially if you are getting oil pressure with engine RPM higher than idle. Hopefully you'll be able to get away with a crank polish and new bearings, be sure to do camshaft bearings as well. The way I always look at it, if you are tearing the motor down and inspecting everything, might as well replace the bearings/rings while you're there.

I have a Felpro Performance book at work, I will get you a Felpro part number on Monay morning

Hi were do u have your probe too for your temp in the head or intake? If it is in the head your are going to read a higher temp then in the intake, the intake is like the 210 mark .And for the oil it is 10psi for 1000rpm is what is needed, with that low of oil your more then likey have the bearing gone.

Got the heads off and pulled the lifters , They were pounded the cam itself looked good but i have never seen lifters that were pounded like that , they were not flat .... BUT i also have never seen the spring retainers on the head cracked like a couple were ....

Thats as far as i have gone .... Motor is out and on the stand... Will rip it apart next weekend or hopefully sooner....

Any suggestions on a 406 Pontiac Cam ? It had the Ram Air IV 041
BUT i have been looking at this one also ...

Not sure if you found the head gasket yet, but the only number Felpro offers for a performance head gasket for the Pontiac V8 is FPG #1016

Im trying to decide on a cam now , but i still have to get the bottom end apart ...
If the crank is damaged , im debating going to a 455 crank ...

What brand oil filter are you running?? I ran a fram oil filter on my 489 BBC..at idle i would have 30-40 PSI...cruising I would have 50-55...but when i stepped on it, it would drop to 20 PSI....needless to say i switched to a NAPA gold...now at idle I have 50-60 PSI, cruising I have 60-70..and When i step on it..it stays at 60-70...I will never use a Fram oil filter again.

Good to know. I never knew different brands of filters varied the oil pressure that much. I do know when the oil is ready to be changed, the pressure will drop some because of the filter being dirty and becoming partially clogged. I don't run fram tho. They are the worst filter on the market. Type on fram on YouTube and see what u find.
