All very helpful🙄.
Have you ever tried drilling the perimeter of the thermostat?

Solved the problem on my Dad’s 2006 SSR (ls2) which are notorious for running hot. His has the factory 187 thermostat. Drill 2,4,6 or 8 holes depending on how much you rely on your heater😂.

Not saying it’ll fix you’re but it’s worth a shot if you have a spare one laying around.

You check for a seeping head gasket? Any signs of bubbling in the radiator? With electric fans and big azz radiators, you shouldn't be heating up a 350. The original 307 in the 84 H/O started running strangely hot a few days before #2 hole started puking white smoke out the exhaust.

I run that same Champion aluminum radiator, 160 thermostat, along with the lower flap you have, and the side flaps shown in the Ebay link. My GN runs 172 on the highway, and no more than 185 sitting in traffic on a hot Summer day in Texas. I do have the Intrepid dual electric fans, and never even turn them on the "High" setting. I'm pretty impressed with that cheap radiator ( I think I only paid $130 ), but it's probably the whole package that keeps my car cool.

Here's your dang part number... 22510230 Same for either side.

$40?! I used to throw those out weekly.

Air management is key. High pressure across the core, low pressure behind it. Ducting air across the core is paramount, any holes will bleed off pressure to the path of least resistance. Oh, and that air dam under the core support? It does more than direct air up, its real purpose is to create a low pressure area behind the rad.

The MCSS has a fully boxed in rad and still has the air dam under the core support.

Yes, I used the EP Stewart thermostat with those holes drilled in my 403, still ran hotter than I liked. Before I sealed that 2 core aluminum rad, the Olds 350 ran at a decent temp, can't remember what, want to say 200 at the most. The current 260 is the issue, it is nearing the end of it's life. If it can't pull amazing mileage it can go. The 350 will run circles around it and get similar mileage. There will be no new rad for the 88, 4 rads in how many years is enough. If I can't use the parts lying around, it can jump off a cliff. I need way too many parts to finish my 70S plus machine the 403 block for it. The 350 currently in the 70S has nearly fresh heads and. 028" head gaskets right now, 9 to 1 with a 214/214 cam. The .041" Felpro head gaskets looked perfect when I removed the 55cc chamber heads. It is in very good shape, a good 30 more psi oil pressure with lighter oil than the 260 and had very good compression numbers. I should redo its compression test as well. Which way do those air dams go in?

My lower dam was ripped, bolted a plate in the middle. I may tape the sides with Gorilla tape on the Stratus fans to help seal it. I can live with 195-200 max with 160 or 180 high flow thermostat. Whatever I have in the Performer intake, one of those two. That will be the only change to 350 before it goes in the 88. Unless it is an issue with the serpentine setup on the 260?

Still would like pics to make sure I put them in the right spot the right way up . I may try and do a compression test this week on both motors.
