Actually Turna, I just realized the last time the headers and 2.5" dual exhaust were on this 260, it had a dying TH350. So I barely put any highway miles on it. It is probably now super lean thanks to the headers and probably the shitty cooling this car has always had. I plan to switch back to a thermal switch to turn on the fans. Is there a durable switch for the intake with a lower set point than 195?
It's super important to have a proper radiator boxing in so air is flowed right at the radiator. On the Buicks they have a flexible rubbery material the closes it all off so air if funneled to the radiator. I don't know on a Cutlass how they did it but the Buick kit is still available and it's not expensive. I'm sure it could be adapted to your car. If I get a chance I'll take a pic of mine so you can see how it works. It's been discussed many time on the Turbo Buick site how just adding that boxing kit back on after someone tore it off significantly improves the cooling. They can even be adapted for front mounts if you take the time to trim it out.
Where is temp sensor located intake or block one will read hotter than the other intake is normally hot side that’s where water is waiting to be released so anything under 220 is ok if you can get that down to 180 195 even better but that will mean performance radiator new cap good water pump and fan good luck and have fun
I don't have pics NOW. But there are two 4-5 inch gaps on either side of my radiator( no a/c). I filled those gaps in with this pink insulation that Home Depot sells. Its about one inch thick and easy to cut and paints well. By adding this material my Malibu ran 10* cooler, Fahrenheit , with a Champion 2 row radiator. My motor was not cooling well at highway speeds. The insulation and adding vacuum advance did the trick.
I blocked off two spots at the top after I got home. I am very interested on the sealing kit, is it available from GM or another source? I removed the condensor and pulled down the trans cooler, to let more air in. It got to 215 on the gauge today with the condensor in, so 205 if that temp gun is right and the gauge is wrong. Not terrible and could live with the 350 running that warm. Removing the condensor should help quite a bit.
Thanks. That side baffle is similar to the top baffles on my 70S. It is cheap so, I will pick them up over winter. The hot weather is probably done here. Draining the coolant, adding flush and replacing with a new 50/50 mix.
