Just wanted to post up and tell everybody to PLEASE be careful while working in your garages/shops. I'm very sad to say that a young man lost his life here on the weekend.

He is a relative on my aunt's side (aunt married my fathers brother)

Condolences to you & your family. It's easier to get hurt or killed than most of us think, tripped over my air hose few months back,broke 5 ribs when my sternum impacted on top of a jackstand. Trying to keep things put away immediately after use now.

So sorry to hear that Kevin. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My mother always worried about me when I worked on my cars because she had a relative die when a jack failed. But I have always tried to be careful. Didn’t stop me from getting my hand broken at work when the frame rack came down on it. I was lucky and just needed surgery to reset the bones. I could have lost my hand.

when i went to mechanics school they spent the first three weeks on safety. if you left your creeper laying on the floor you were sent home for the day. they were very safety conscious. my friend was working on his truck and had it up on ramps without blocking the wheels and putting the parking brake on, when he took the driveline out the truck rolled backward and pinned him under the wheel. he survived but now he won't work by himself.

Has the local fire investigator been able to identify or offer a theory or reason for the explosion? Learning what caused this loss could help others of us avoid the same circumstances in our garages and shops.
