Ok so i'm trying to remove my broken Flexplate, and i have every bolt off put one, and it's started to strip!!!!! I don't know what to do! if i just grind it down will it be alright without that one bolt? it's a chevy 350..please help.

same thing happened to me. just spray some WD-40 on it and let it sit...try some vice grips on it and hit them with a hammer, you can also try tappin at the stripped bolt head with a hammer and see if that loosens it up a lil an then try to take it out. you need all there i wouldnt grind it out

The bolt head isnelt completly stripped, its only starting to, i cant get a socket to stay around it though. Im just really stressing out over this bolt, it's holding everything up. I'll get ahold of some vice grips tomorrow, and blast the bolt down with some PB blaster and let it sit for awhile, thanks for the advice man, i'll get back to you guys if that doesnt work.

sounds exactly like what happened to me, the bolt head was rounded off on one corner and i couldn't get my socket to turn it. I gave up and let my buddy handle it lol. I was the same way, got all frustrated let me know how it goes

Patience is defiantly the ticket. If you start to get frustrated soak it with more PB and walk away for a while. You should get it let it soak, overnight wouldn't be a bad idea. Good luck, let us know

Well i just soaked it in PB and i'm going to let it sit for the night, tomorrow i'm gonna pickup a pair of vicegrips and go at it again, i'll keep you guys updated.

I'm j/w, if worst came to worst could i go without that one bolt? i have to get my car on the road by saturday so that's why my patience is running thin.

I can't tell you that for sure. Somebody should be along that can answer that for ya. Good luck

I wouldn't go without it.You could try grinding the bolt head down to a smaller size if it rounds off. Also, what kind of socket are you using? You should be using a 6 point socket, NOT a 12 point!!! The 6 point will grab much better. Also, be sure you are using a good name brand socket, not a cheap one. Cheap ones will swell out and round the bolt head while good ones may crack, but they will not lose their shape.

Yeah i actually broke two sockets, i'm using 6 point 14MM, the first one i tried cracked and the second one rounded it, the second was the cheap one. Now i went out abd bought a craftsman 14mm 6 point

You might also try a 9/16" and see if that fits a little tighter. I don't remember if that's slightly larger or smaller than the metric, but they're for the most part interchangeable.

Also, flywheel and flexplate bolts usually have threadlock compound on them, and penetrating oil alone might not do much. You will probably need some heat. If you don't have access to an Oxy/Acetylene torch, you can go to Wal-Mart or your nearest hardware store and pick up a MAPP torch kit for about $20-$30. MAPP gas doesn't burn as hot as Acetylene, but it is much hotter than propane and has worked great for me in the past. It can be identified by the yellow bottles.

Lastly, I wouldn't try running without the bolt. The bolts should always be torqued to spec in a criss-cross pattern. Leaving one out will put uneven stress on one portion of the flexplate, and will cause it to warp or crack.
