Those of you that have seen my floor, its not rusty. Few localized scaly spots that were dealt with with a small wire brush. i was going to remove old seam sealer, degrease, slather on some new sealer around the entire floor pan, re seal body plugs, then scuff floor with a red scuff pad, degrease again, and slap the por15 on. Yay or nay? More steps to it or can I just go that way? I know theres the metal prep stuff they sell, but if its touted as being able to be put directly over rust, it will be fine on my floor right?

The por's more than just spray and pray, yes you do paint over rust but you need to prep the rusty surface to an extent or else it doesn't work.they have a whole de-greasing/metal prep rinsing process.it's a pain in the *ss but read up on it and decide if it's something you want to do before you spend your money.

A product called RustBullet similiar to Por15 requires less prep. Not sure about ZeroRust. Alot of guys use a solution of vinegar and water to prep the surface rust , usually using scotchbrite pads on the metal prior to applying these rustproofing paints.

Car lasted almost 40 years with lacquer paint.

Don't believe all the hype and nonsense with these overpriced bullshit paints

If you want to spend big buxx on fancy paint buy E Paint SN-1.$70ish a quart

That's what the Navy uses to paint the ships.

It will outlast you your kids and their kids.

A 100 years from now the only thing left of the car will be the floor boards

I used both POR-15 and SEM Rust Trap on my truck and Regal. If I was going to do it again, I'd use flat or semi gloss black brush-on Rust-Oleum. Hit the surface rust with a little bit of SEM rust mort first if you really want to. POR-15 and rust trap run $45 a quart, not to mention the special prep products you are supposed to use with them. Rust-Oleum runs what, $8 or $10 a quart? It protects every bit as well IMO and you'll save a lot of money.

I like POR-15 better than alkyd paint. I do all my floor-pans and trunks regardless of rust. Why? Water leaks. These cars are so darn old leaks are a certainty. And you will never know until it is too late that the floors are dissolving. POR-15 is a 2 part urethane that is impervious to just about anything. Get some on your skin and you will agree. Alkyd paints are susceptible to softening when kept wet, as in wet carpet. I've sent cars to the junkyard and the POR-15 was still as good as new.
