Thanks, Thats really what Im looking for. Im not afraid to spend the money when need be. The welder though is a pro. Its all he does for a living for over 40yrs. Not a rookie by any means, Im sure he knows all that. Ill talk to him some more. But I think I would rather take your advise and just play it safe. It just wouldve been cool to have the posi, gears i want and brakes all in one package. One of my biggest issues is searching for stuff. I have very limited time running a business and playing daddy.
Thanks for the advise

Ok found another deal. I have alot of guys looking to barter for tools. lol. 1997 7.5 rear with 373 gears and disk brakes. Now im sure Ill need axles. but what about the rest of it. Will the ring and pinion, posi unit and brakes fit onto the original Malibu rear. I trust this guy as far as knowing I wont be installing parts that are bad. Im going to search and see if there is any write up on that but figured I would ask just in case because I would like to let him know as quick as I can. Thanks guys

If your not throwing a huge amount to power to it you could do as many other have done and just reuse the stock housing. I did a 81 cutty for a bracket car with the proper upgrade and it works very well. Found a 2000 Camaro rearend with the torrison posi and it came with a set of 3.42 gears so that went in along with a set of moser 28 spline axels to match the posi spline count bigger and beefer is always better. Finished it off the a HD cover for the back to help snug up the main caps. Did it all for under $450 nice high 11s foot break car.

So, the 7.5 housing bearings work fine with the 7.625 differential, no problem? I'm looking to do that exact swap. I have a pair of used GN 28-spline axle shafts, so I think I am good to go if I can solve the bearing problem in advance. I looked online to understand how that Torsen differential works. Had to watch it three times before I think I got it.

Thanks guys. I may this route. Ill have a 373 posi and disk brakes. Nice I just have to now get a 700r4 and a front brake upgrade.Soon Ill have some pics. I have it being painted right now.

If I was to go to the trouble of a rear end swap I wouldn't want to do it more than once. A 7.5 wouldn't even get a second thought, and probably not even a first thought. If I couldn't find an 8.5 ten bolt I would go to the link, click the options I want, give em a credit card number, bolt it in and punish it. No one wants to hurt a quarter panel with an axle that exits.

You right on the welding the rear. I trust my buddy as the absolute best welder I have ever met. He started in the Navy. I have always done the do it once thing and found myself with projects that are apart for years before I can drive. Even getting sick of looking at in the garage and selling it for less than I have in it. This time Im doing it different, I want to bring the car to a certain level and drive it a few years. If I decide to go all out and do a big block or an Ls swap, then I plan to aquire everything I possible can before I touch the car. At that point I would consider going the 9inch route and choosing the right gears to go with that combo. Thanks for the advise though
