Because I was thinking that because of the higher static energy needed to turn a wheel for a burnout, only one wheel would have enough force to spin. But I thought that once the car started moving and both would need less kenetic energy to spin, they would both move....

So you're saying that if a car were to be raised above air, and the accelerator engaged, that only one wheel would spin?

Both would spin, however it wouldn't take a lot of force to stop one. As soon as one tire spins the rear has done its job in transfering power. That's why you can get stuck with only one wheel in ice or snow.
