The Cutlass may be a little different than the Grand Prix, but can't you get to that bolt with the door open?

On a 2-door Cutlass, that bolt doesn't exist on the back of the fender unless it's not original. So simply opening the door doesn't get you there. 4-doors do have the bolt back there. 2-door Cutlass has the worst setup as far as ease of replacement, because it isn't. Due to that ONE m'f'n bolt.
In fact, I don't recall if the 2-door Cutlass has the bolt hole in the back of the fender for that, but if so, you could even get the bracketry from a 4-door or another car that has the back bolt, it may be an option.
I'm changing out to metal corded ones whenever I have to go in and change one so I'll just have to do it once. The motors are pretty reliable. The nylon actuating cord isn't.

Almost. It's a real PITA. That's all I remember. Your mind tends to block out really bad things that happen in your life. That was one of them. The details are rather murky. I remember the first time doing it, I removed the outer skin of the fender. Had to take the hood hinge loose and pull the bolts for the inner fender upper and lower in the back. I was able to fenagle my arm and a 10mm socket in there and remove the bolt, and then hang the new one on there when replaced. I swore I would never do it again. But I lied to myself. The next time was a breeze as I was rebuilding the entire car so it was SO much easier.
I am going to tackle that very item on my 87 now that the antenna cable is busted. I've got a new mast and steel actuator cable installed, ready and waiting. I'm just being a pu$$y and trying to find every reason to keep putting it off. I'm a little skeered. 🙂

There's a lotta bolts holding that inner wheel well to the inner fender. Unless you're talking about the ones that bolt from inside the wheel well itself, then yeah. You may be able to get it to slide out enough without taking the door off. If you take out the rear fender to body bolts, make sure to capture any and all shims and remember where they go. It's that darn A/C box that gets in the way.
And take some pics or something. Let us know how it's really done. When I do mine, not anytime real soon, I'll do a writeup and quit junking up this thread with my idiotic ideas.
There should be a bolt or screw holding that antenna. If you want to find out if it's still there open the passenger door all the way use your left hand its easier. Snake your hand under the rubber boot, I was surprised I could still do this go straight in and on the right side that's the inner fender shell. You will feel an area that's recessed and the screw or bolt is in the middle of that, see picture. My index finger is on the bolt. If you think of using a combo wrench or 1/4 drive socket it's not going to happen no room for it. It's been some time that I replaced one but it's all coming back to me. Yes that bolt or screw can be taken out that way, just trying to remember the sequence how I did it at the dealership.
