I've heard of this before, but don't quite know how to do it. Where would I get a "remote solenoid"? Would this mount under the hood? Would I be able to crank the engine from under the hood?

I got mine at Napa, partsourse ones are junk. I mounted it on the wheel well near the starter and added to the length of the two wires with the fusible links that go to the battery side. Then the start wire from the starter is lengthened and attached to the solenoid. here's a diagram..

I ended up purchasing the gear reduction one that khan suggested. I only drive my by about 1 a week and not at all during the winter so hopefully with a starter heat sleeve and header wrap I can get some decent time our of it. Thanks for the good info everyone.
